Pepco Chooses Envista Smarter Streets to Save Time and Money

Electric Utility Expects Reduced Capital Costs and Fewer Traffic Snarls Through Proactive Coordination With Municipalities

BEVERLY, MA--(Marketwire - November 24, 2010) - Envista Corporation, the world's leading provider of map-based coordination for smarter, safer streets, today announced that Pepco Holdings, Inc, a regulated electric utility that provides transmission and distribution services to 778,000 homes and businesses in the District of Columbia and its Maryland suburbs, has selected Envista Smarter Streets to reduce project delivery time, save money, enhance street performance and safety, and minimize environmental impact of utility projects.

Recognizing the significant constraints in time and resources within the communities it serves, Pepco needed a way to coordinate with municipal road projects to avoid conflicts and manage street work more proactively. With Envista, Pepco simply adds its project plans directly via the web. Envista then automatically geo-locates Pepco's projects with other work being performed or planned by municipalities and entities engaged in street projects or events. Project plans are shown on dynamic maps, making it easy to identify date or location conflicts before work begins. As a result, Pepco is able to better utilize its resources, reducing project timelines and saving money.

Thomas H. Graham, President, Pepco Region, said, "Pepco chose Envista Smarter Streets because of the potential benefits its map-based coordination will extend to our customers. These benefits include projected capital savings due to reduced paving costs, fewer traffic impediments experienced by our customers due to multiple construction related projects, and additional benefits as we explore the full potential of this solution. Envista's ability to enable proactive coordination between our utility and other entities that are working within the public space is expected to help us mitigate the frustrations and inconvenience of projects that occur in almost immediate succession of each other over a relatively short period of time."

By making it easy and cost-effective for utilities, municipalities and highway agencies to exchange project information, Envista is providing Pepco with better information with which to make operational decisions, ease the management of street cut moratoriums with municipalities, and reduce its costs through an improved ability to plan.
