Perceptronix Invited to Present at International Conference: Mobilizing the Private Sector for Global Health Development

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - April 30, 2007) - Dr. Bojana Turic, President and CEO, Perceptronix Medical Inc. ("Perceptronix") has been invited to present at the International Biotechnology Partnership Conference: Mobilizing the Private Sector for Global Health Development on May 2 at the MaRS Centre, Toronto, Ontario. Dr. Turic's presentation will focus on the company's approach to addressing the impact smoking-induced cancers are having in developing countries.

The three-day conference, organized by the McLaughlin-Rotman Centre, Program on Life Sciences and Global Health at the University of Toronto, will host leaders from the global health and biotechnology communities including representatives from India, China, Brazil, South Africa, Canada, and the United States.

"It is a rare opportunity to present at a conference where so many countries are represented," says Dr. Turic. "When people talk about the developing world the first thing that comes to mind are infectious diseases, however the impact of tobacco consumption is devastating."

The WHO estimates there are approximately 350 million people over the age of 45 who smoke in developing countries, of which 20 percent are expected to die of smoking induced cancers.

"It is my goal to showcase Perceptronix's automated platforms for cancer detection and to develop new relationships in the emerging cancer markets of the developing world," stated Dr. Turic. "We strongly believe that by detecting cancer early we will be able to make a major impact on patient's lives as well as reduce the costs of late treatments worldwide."

Perceptronix has Canadian and EU licences on early cancer detection tests, and is actively seeking partnerships to joint venture its laboratory services.
