Pericom Targets Low Power, High Performance

New Product Rollouts Support New Platform System Power Management, Low Power, and Signal Integrity Requirements

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - Sep 11, 2012) - INTEL DEVELOPER FORUM (IDF) - Pericom Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: PSEM), a leading supplier of serial high-speed connectivity, signal-conditioning and timing solutions, today announced continued rollout of new products targeting advanced requirements of platforms utilizing major chipset CPU vendor's latest mobile, server, networking, and embedded chipsets. Pericom will demonstrate and display these new devices at the Intel Developer Forum, San Francisco, September 11-13, 2012 at Booth 713.

The new products support high performance signal conditioning for applications such as 10/40Gbps Ethernet in higher end platforms such as Ethernet switches. For mobile platforms such as Ultrabook and Tablet, other new products provide very low power signal conditioning for SATA3/SAS2, and also 'industry first' products that sense the absence of an external video monitor and turn off the video drivers for system power savings, which preserve battery life and help platforms earn energy star and protocol compliance test certification.

"Our newly announced products address solutions for real world power saving and high speed serial signal integrity issues on mobile, server, storage, embedded, and networking platforms," said Alex Hui, Pericom president and CEO. "We work closely with our broad customer base and chipset partners to maximize our product features and benefits to platform designers."

The latest additions to Pericom's high speed, high performance ReDriver portfolio are 2 10Gbps signal conditioning products, optimized to cost effectively extend 10Gb Ethernet PCB traces in server, storage, networking, and embedded platforms to improve performance and efficiency. Both ReDrivers support 4 lanes of 10Gbps data rate, allowing cost effective trace extension of 40GbE (4x10GbE) channels, and both interleave (paired) and flowthrough pinout versions are available.

The 2 new low power additions to Pericom's SATA3 and SAS2 ReDriver families are 6Gbps signal conditioning products optimized for single lane mobile computing applications, consuming an 'industry low' 15 MicroWatts in the important standby mode, when the SATA or SAS port is not being used. This is critical in helping to prolong battery life, and a good example of how Pericom is working with system designers to reduce power.

The 2 new video monitor sensing switches support monitor detect from a VGA source, consume extremely low power ( < 200uA), with one of the products offering added 1:2 demux switching with VSIS compliance. The products could offer significant ( > 100mW) system battery power savings on a typical mobile TAB or NB platform by turning off the video drivers when not needed.

Unit growth of Pericom's targeted platforms show a healthy 56% 3 year growth for TAB to 222Mu, and a strong 31% 3 year growth to 528Mu for PC/NB (IDC, June 2012). 10Gb Ethernet port shipment growth will expand a very strong 90% to 38M ports by 2015, while 10GbE overtakes 1GbE port shipments in 2013 in the server, networking, and embedded segments (Crehan Research, March 2012).
