Persistent Systems Enables Christiana Care Health System to Adopt caTissue Application

Seamless Migration of Legacy Data to caTissue Accelerates Clinical Research

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - June 11, 2009) - Persistent Systems today announced the adoption of the caTissue application at Christiana Care Health System (CCHS) located in Wilmington, DE. Christiana Care -- a private, not-for-profit regional health care system and one of the largest health care providers in the mid-Atlantic region -- will significantly speed the pace of its research and development efforts as a result of this move.

Developed as part of the caBIG™ program -- a National Cancer Institute (NCI) initiative -- caTissue accelerates research discoveries and improves patient outcomes by linking researchers, physicians, and patients throughout the cancer community. Persistent managed the transition to caTissue by completing the migration of Christiana Care's legacy data and provided a seamless interface with the Christiana Care data warehouse. Persistent worked closely with the CCHS team to customize their Surgical Pathlogy Reports (SPR) import workflow.

Persistent also updated the caTissue default labeling and barcoding scheme, which allows CCHS to print specimen labels according to their specific needs. To enable a smooth work flow, an onsite specialized training program was also conducted by Persistent for all the individual caTissue users including application administrators, principle investigators, lab technicians and other support staff.

"Persistent was integral to the deployment of caTissue at Christiana Care. Persistent brought to the table domain and application specific knowledge, which is essential in deploying applications like caTissue," said Rajiv R. Haravu, Senior Systems Analyst - caBIG at Christiana Care.

As another example of Persistent's contribution to the development of software for the caBIG program, last month the company announced a deployment at the University of Edinburgh, UK.

Persistent has invested more than 700 person-months in the development of seven different caBIG applications and the customization of more than a dozen installations of caTissue at institutions across the U.S., including Washington University, Indiana University, Yale University, University of California, Davis, University of Michigan, Emory University, NCI's Enterprise Adoption Program, Louisiana Cancer Research Institute and Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

"Persistent intimately understands the infrastructure and processes associated with the caBig program, as well as its mission to develop a truly collaborative information network that accelerates discovery and improves patient outcomes," said Dr. Anand Deshpande, CEO of Persistent Systems. "We will continue to combine our Life Sciences and technology expertise to deliver applications that hasten the pace of research and further collaboration worldwide."

Persistent has nearly a decade long experience in the Life Science space with focus on four main domains: Bioinformatics, Clinical Informatics, Medical Devices and Instrumentation, with special focus on Lab Automation. The company has developed expertise and reusable software components that help in providing services ranging from data integration and warehousing, laboratory information management systems, regulatory compliance, visualization and analytics.

As an open source application, caTissue can be freely downloaded and deployed. The caTissue Support Center at Persistent Systems offers a variety of support and training services related to the caTissue application. For more information on Persistent caBIG competency and caTissue, visit:
