Peterborough's Adam Coones joins Candace Rennick on CUPE Ontario's top board

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - May 30, 2016) - Peterborough now holds two spots on CUPE Ontario's top decision making body after delegates to their annual convention elected Adam Coones to join Candace Rennick on their executive board.

"People from Peterborough have a strong sense of fairness. We stand up for our community," said Candace, who was acclaimed to her fourth term as Secretary-Treasurer, one of the two top ranking positions on the board. "I think it's these shared values that build strong leaders and have helped both Adam and I gain the confidence of CUPE members."

Adam, who works at the public library in Peterborough, was thrilled to be elected for the first time. "It's a great honour to have CUPE members from across the province put their faith in me. I have always worked within coalitions to fight for issues that matter to our community. I now hope to bring people together and build broader consensus on these issues at the provincial level."

"In the face of governments that put the needs of their elite friends ahead of people and communities, we have an obligation to lead the charge in building a world that works for everyone," said Secretary-Treasurer Candace Rennick. "With new talent like Adam joining our executive board I know we will succeed."

CUPE is Ontario's community union, with more than 250,000 members providing quality public services we all rely on, in every part of the province, every day. CUPE Ontario members are proud to work in social services, health care, municipalities, school boards, universities and airlines.
