Pethealth Inc. Reaches 3-Million Cats and Dogs Insured Under Its ShelterCare Gift of Insurance

Innovative Insurance Program Helps Change Pet Owner Views Toward Pet Adoption

OAKVILLE, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 8, 2010) - Pethealth Inc., ("Pethealth" or the "Company") (TSX:PTZ) the leading provider of animal companion services in North America, is pleased to announce it has now, in partnership with over 1,500 animal welfare organizations, provided the ShelterCare Gift of Insurance to more than 3 million adopted cats and dogs across the United States and Canada. Launched in 2002, the ShelterCare Gift of Insurance provides up to 45 days of complimentary pet insurance covering the most common accidents and illnesses that occur when pets are introduced into a new home environment.

Toney and Judith Adams of Urbana, OH, were recipients of the 3 millionth ShelterCare Gift of Insurance, helping them cover the costs incurred in saving the life of their newly adopted golden retriever, Lucky.

"For an insurance company to provide that opportunity to people like me is just incredible," says Toney. "I can't say enough about ShelterCare. It has to be one of the nicest things a company in its position could do for animals. It's absolutely wonderful."

Shortly after bringing him home, Lucky was diagnosed with canine parvovirus, a highly contagious illness commonly found in young dogs lacking the benefits of early medical attention. The virus can lie dormant for years making it difficult to predict or diagnose until symptoms erupt.

"He was lucky to survive," says Toney. "We are so grateful to the shelter, the veterinarian, and to ShelterCare. Everyone worked together in concert. They turned an awful situation into a positive experience."

Lucky was adopted from The Humane Society Serving Clark County (HSSCC), which cares for an estimated 3,300 animals annually. The ShelterCare gift of pet insurance program not only helps people who adopt pets, but animal welfare organizations as well helping them to redirect their limited financial resources elsewhere rather than using them to cover unexpected post-adoption veterinary fees or provide 30-day health guarantees.

"Over 90 percent of the animals that come here are strays with no medical history," says Krissi Hawke, Shelter Coordinator at HSSCC. "As hard as we work to keep them healthy and vaccinated, we simply cannot predict what might happen after they've been adopted. The ShelterCare Gift of pet insurance provides families an amazing opportunity to keep an adopted pet they may otherwise not have been financially capable of keeping."

Today, HSSCC is one of over 1,500 animal welfare organizations across North America that provides the ShelterCare Gift of pet insurance. On behalf of its underwriters, the Company has paid out over $11 million in claims to pet adopters during the gift period of coverage.

"The ShelterCare Gift is a vital and valuable service we provide to our partner shelters," says Christa Chadwick, Director, North American Shelter Outreach at Pethealth, Inc. "By covering the most common illnesses and accidents seen post-adoption, the ShelterCare Gift of Insurance helps reduce the number of animals returned to shelters for health-related reasons. We are very proud of the support we provide to animal shelters and adopters, and are thrilled with the continued success of the program."
