PetPoint™ Plays Critical Role in Successful Cat Rescue

SPCA Serving Erie County Relies on Industry Leading Shelter Management System to Organize Rescue in Animal Cruelty Case

OAKVILLE, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 29, 2012) - Pethealth Inc. (TSX:PTZ) ("Pethealth" or the "Company") is pleased to share that its industry leading shelter database management system, PetPoint, has once again played a key role in the efficient coordination, logistics and administration of a large-scale animal rescue effort, this time facilitating the successful rescue of over 500 cats from deplorable conditions at the Wyoming County SPCA. The operation was led by the SPCA Serving Erie County ("Erie County"), alongside New York State Police.

"Pethealth provided instant help that was desperately needed," says Barbara Carr, Executive Director of the SPCA Serving Erie County. "We were anticipating anywhere from 200 to 250 cats and what we found doubled those expectations. Within 24 hours we had a database set up within PetPoint specifically for triage and were creating digital medical records, uploading photos and descriptive information, and coordinating transfers right onsite-no easy feat when you're dealing with 22 receiving organizations and hundreds of unfamiliar cats without the aid of tags or microchip identification. We might still be cataloguing animals were it not for PetPoint but instead we were able to easily manage record keeping and focus on the welfare of the animals. It's truly remarkable how quickly and efficiently we were able to mobilize and transfer so many animals. The entire rescue operation was over in a matter of days with the majority of the 79 cats we took into our own organization adopted into new homes in just over a week."

To facilitate Erie County's rescue efforts, the PetPoint Technical Support team established a dedicated 'rescue database' to isolate seized animals from the organization's existing animal inventory. Pethealth's own Gilberto Gandra, Regional Director Shelter Outreach, spent three days onsite assisting data entry and coordinating transfers through the PetPoint Transfer Network, which supported the logistics onsite and allowed for the seamless movement of digital animal records from one PetPoint shelter database to another. Over two thirds of the animals deemed fit were transferred through this network to other PetPoint licensed organizations.

"The transfer functionality within PetPoint was a huge help during this rescue," says Brad Shear, Executive Director of Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, a PetPoint licensed organization which received 30 inbound cat transfers through the rescue operation. "With this large number of animals coming in all at once, we could have been overwhelmed with paperwork. Instead, through PetPoint we have only to press a button and we have all the information we need for our veterinarian and staff to review."

As a hosted solution, PetPoint offers flexible support that can be accessed from any online location, eliminating the need for onsite infrastructure such as servers and software installations, and giving rescuers the ability to access records and coordinate efforts from multiple hotspot locations. With programming and design led by shelters, the system streamlines the logistics of the animal intake and outcome process, including cataloguing, medical records, and data transfer; all necessary aspects of any organized rescue operation.

"The animal cruelty investigation and seizure from Wyoming County SPCA offers a prime example of how PetPoint provides unparalleled organizational efficiency, not just in a daily operational setting, but also in a chaotic, triage situation where animal records and inventory are critical not only for rescue purposes but also as evidence in a criminal investigation," says Connie Howard, Director of Animal Welfare Relations at Pethealth Inc., and former Vice President of Operations at the Humane Society of Boulder Valley.

Last year, PetPoint played a key role in several large scale rescue efforts, including responses to the tornadoes in Missouri and Alabama, flooding in Louisiana, and the wildfire evacuation and rescue in central Texas. Launched in 2005, PetPoint is now licensed by 1,800 animal welfare organizations across the United States and Canada and has facilitated the adoption of over 3.6 million cats, dogs, and other animals.
