PetroFeed is changing how data is shared and consumed in the oil and gas industry with a new iPhone app that provides information about the location and status of drilling rigs in Canada - for free.
"Knowing the location and status of drilling rigs is an essential part of doing business for Service, Finance and E&P Operators," said Ashley Dunfield, CEO & Founder of PetroFeed. "Until now, industry participants had to spend either a lot of money or a lot of time on the phone to find rigs. PetroFeed is making that information available in real time, for everyone, for free."
In the PetroFeed app, users can view all drilling rigs currently operating in Canada and easily find out which company the rig is working for, the terminating geological formation, and the rig's performance over the last three months. The information can be filtered based on geographic area, the rig contractor, current status (drilling, moving, or down) and well path type (vertical, horizontal or deviated).
Like social media apps, users also have the option to "follow" specific rigs and receive notifications when the rig begins a new well, finishes drilling or moves.
"Mobile technology will bring a new era of efficiency and change how the industry does business," said Dunfield "Making rig information universally available is an important first step towards enabling the mobile revolution."
PetroFeed is aiming to add major features to the app at least once a month.
"While this initial version of the app is a big first step, we are even more excited about what we have planned for the coming year," said Dunfield. "We expect 2014 will be an interesting year for everyone in this industry."
The app is available for download in the App Store. Maps can also be viewed on PetroFeed's website.
