PETsMART Charities' National Adoption Weekend Aims to Quadruple Pet Adoptions

More Than 725 PETsMART Stores Host Effort to Unite 16,000 Homeless Pets With Families

PHOENIX, AZ -- (MARKET WIRE) -- April 26, 2005 --

WHAT:

An average of more than 5,000 abandoned and homeless pets hope to find homes each day during the PETsMART Charities National Adoption Weekend. That's more than four times the adoptions facilitated during a typical weekend at PETsMART Charities' in-store Adoption Centers.

WHY:

The weekend initiative is another way for PETsMART and PETsMART Charities to help unite homeless pets with families and to build awareness of the pet overpopulation problem. About 5 million abandoned and unwanted dogs and cats are euthanized each year in North America. Families who adopt a pet during this event will receive a special New Pet & Parent guide, with more than $35 in valuable PETsMART coupons.

WHEN:

Friday, April 29: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Saturday, April 30: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Sunday, May 1: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
WHERE:

All PETsMART stores in the United States and Canada. Visit www.petsmart.com or call 1-877-473-8762 for the store nearest you.

WHO:

Interview local animal welfare organizations about pet adoption, photograph adoptable pets and learn their stories, and meet potential adopters in search of the furry and four-legged family member for them.
