PetSmart Charities® Emergency Relief Waggin' to Arrive in Cedar Rapids Between 1 and 2 p.m. Today

PHOENIX, AZ--(Marketwire - June 13, 2008) - Flooding has left the City of Cedar Rapids in dire straits. City officials called PetSmart Charities Thursday asking for help with more than 500 dogs and cats impacted by the rising flood waters. PetSmart Charities responded today by sending an Emergency Relief Waggin' stocked with emergency pet supplies to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to help the City care for those pet victims. The 53-foot trailer contains enough pet products, food and supplies to support up to 500 companion animals.

The Emergency Relief Waggin', dispatched from PetSmart's Ottawa, Illinois, distribution center at 10 a.m. this morning, is one of six PetSmart Charities emergency relief vehicles that stand ready across the country to deliver food, crates, beds, bowls and other items required for any animal disaster relief effort on a moment's notice.

The Emergency Relief Waggin' will roll into Cedar Rapids, Iowa, sometime between 1 and 2 p.m. today at the Kirkwood Community College, 6301 Kirkwood Blvd. S.W.

Additionally, PetSmart Charities has donated pet food and supplies to the City of Waverly, Iowa, the Brown County Humane Society in Indiana, Morgan County Humane Society in Indiana, and the Dodge County Humane Society in Wisconsin. The nonprofit agency's Midwest Rescue Waggin' has also transported animals from Morgan County Humane Society in Indiana to the Wisconsin Humane Society to make space for pets impacted by the floods.

PetSmart Charities provides immediate emergency relief funding and supplies to shelters to assist pets affected by hurricanes, earthquakes, fire, and other natural disasters. PetSmart Charities also provides emergency relief for pet victims of man-made emergencies including pet hoarding situations and puppy mill rescues. The public can make a tax-deductible donation to help support the rescue and pet victims of the Midwest flooding at: Funds raised are used to aid pets affected by this rescue and other future disasters.
