Phase 1 of Canderel's Bell Campus Project Granted LEED New Construction Certification

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Nov. 24, 2010) - Phase 1 of the Bell Campus project, located on Nuns' Island was granted LEED New Construction (NC) Certification under the Canada Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating system. Developed by Canderel in coordination with the project architect Brian Elsden Burrows of the Architex Group and our LEED consultants Rubin & Rotman Associates and Martin Roy & Associés, Phase 1 of the Bell Campus demonstrates an adherence to green building design, construction and development practices. At 605,000 square feet, the first phase of the project currently holds the distinction of being the province's largest LEED NC certified development.

Phase 1 of the Bell Campus includes sustainable features such as bicycle storage and changing rooms, water efficient landscaping and the latest in mechanical and building systems so as to minimize energy and water consumption. In fact the building is designed to be more than 30% more efficient than current energy efficiency standards. During the construction phase, measures were taken to ensure the use of locally sourced and recycled materials and to divert more than 75% of construction waste from landfill.

"We are extremely pleased to be responsible for the development of the province's largest green building project to date. The Bell Campus was conceived in 2006 illustrating the fact that creating environmentally sustainable projects has been a longstanding commitment of ours," said Jonathan Wener, Chairman of the Canderel Group of Companies. "We look forward to displaying our dedication to promoting a healthy environment through other green development projects and by actively seeking to reduce our footprint throughout our operations in the coming years."
