Phase 2 of Canderel's Bell Campus Project Granted Leed New Construction Certification

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - March 24, 2011) - Phase 2 of the Bell Campus project, located on Nuns' Island has been granted LEED New Construction (NC) Certification under the Canada Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating system. Developed by Canderel in coordination with the project architect Brian Elsden Burrows of the Architex Group and LEED consultants Rubin & Rotman Associates and Martin Roy & Associés, Phase 2 of the Bell Campus was designed, constructed and developed with sustainable building principles in mind. The certification of the 235,000 square foot Phase 2 completes the LEED accreditation process for the Bell Campus development. Phases 1 and 2 combined bring the total of LEED NC certified space to over 840,000 square feet of rentable area.

Phase 2 of the Bell Campus includes sustainable features such as bicycle storage and changing rooms, water efficient landscaping and the latest in mechanical and building systems so as to minimize energy and water consumption. It is designed to be in excess of 30% more efficient than current energy efficiency standards. During the construction phase, measures were taken to ensure the use of locally sourced and recycled materials and to divert more than 75% of construction waste from landfill.

"We are proud of our LEED initiatives and accreditations which are in keeping with our commitment to sustainability and a healthier environment," said Jonathan Wener, Chairman and CEO of the Canderel Group of Companies. "I am particularly pleased with our team who ensured that the Bell Campus has made a significant and lasting contribution to greening Montreal."
