Phase2 Announces Exciting Advances for OpenPublish

The New Republic Goes Live With OpenPublish, a Publisher Suite for the Popular Drupal Platform; OpenPublish Version 1.5 Released

ALEXANDRIA, VA--(Marketwire - September 2, 2009) - Phase2 Technology is pleased to announce the relaunch of The New Republic's web site, www.tnr.com, using OpenPublish.

OpenPublish is a packaged distribution of the popular open source social publishing platform, Drupal, tailored to meet the needs of today's online publishers. OpenPublish taps the power of Drupal, a social publishing platform, and supports everything from news coverage to Web 2.0 trends, semantic metadata tagging, social publishing and topic hubs.

An industry leader, The New Republic is home to intellectual content on politics and culture. TNR editors are some of the most respected and influential journalists in the country. And TNR has sought to be a leader in new media innovation. The cutting-edge tools of OpenPublish meet this need and the extensive feature set allows The New Republic to best display and showcase an increasingly vast archive of content, including extensive blogs and multimedia assets.

"OpenPublish is a smart solution that pairs the best new tools for online news and commentary with a solid CMS," said Mike Rancilio, Publisher, The New Republic. "The implementation of it, provided by Phase2 Technology was excellent -- and we were able to get a revamped site in a short time."

The New Republic joins other prestigious publishing sites built using OpenPublish, including Governing Magazine, which launched earlier this year.

In addition, Phase2 Technology released OpenPublish version 1.5 today. It includes the latest upgrades of Drupal modules including Panels3, cck, devel, imagecache, feedapi and mollom. The latest security patches and updates were applied to all other modules as well. Version 1.5 comes bundled with the Acquia Network module, which provides support and network services for Drupal 6.x websites.

Version 1.5 also includes two smart new tools for content monetization: Quantcast and Contenture. Quantcast allows publishers to tag their site, analyze audience and thus get the most effective advertisements. And, Contenture provides publishers with a new micropayment system.

OpenPublish version 1.5 offers a solution for publishers struggling to keep up with rapidly expanding technology and user expectations. It allows editors like those at The New Republic and Governing to rethink online news presentation and use readily available tools to reach a larger audience, and to monetize content. Cutting-edge tools and features will continue to be added in subsequent versions.
