Philadelphia Media Holdings Implements Tripwire Enterprise to Monitor and Report on PCI Compliance

Securing Customers' Financial Data Becomes a Major Issue for Newspaper Publishers as Online Commerce Expands

PORTLAND, OR--(Marketwire - September 28, 2009) - Tripwire®, the leader in data center compliance and infrastructure management, announced today that Philadelphia Media Holdings LLC, the publisher of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Daily News,, and other print and online news publications, has adopted Tripwire Enterprise to deliver on its commitment to compliance with the security regulations of the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) 2.1.

As the publisher of leading national newspapers and online news outlets, Philadelphia Media Holdings has run many stories about organizations that have fallen victim to financial data and credit card security breaches. By implementing Tripwire Enterprise, which evaluates whether changes made to IT systems processing financial data are in compliance with PCI DSS, the company can avoid similar breaches to its own systems.

"Today, publishers are more than news portals; they are also first-line commerce centers for subscriptions, advertising, entertainment options, sporting events, and retailing of reprints and images," said George Kurtas, manager of IT infrastructure, Philadelphia Media Holdings. "By implementing Tripwire Enterprise, we are providing assurance to our customers that we are a secure and trusted business partner."

Tripwire Enterprise comes with policy templates that assess relevant configurations across physical and virtual infrastructure, alerting administrators to settings that are out of line with PCI requirements. Once configurations have been adjusted, Tripwire Enterprise's file integrity monitoring ensures they stay in compliance with automatic alerts about any suspect change activity. If an issue arises, Tripwire Enterprise provides remediation assistance to quickly fix out-of-compliance settings. Tripwire Enterprise also automatically stores a history of PCI test results, providing an audit trail that can be easily generated as reports in preparation for the auditing process. This combination of configuration assessment and file integrity monitoring reduces the burden of attaining and proving continuous PCI compliance.

Philadelphia Media Holdings plans to use Tripwire Enterprise for 24/7 file integrity monitoring and configuration auditing across its data center, and to stabilize critical path systems in the print production environment. Reporting capabilities also give administrators the ability to quickly pinpoint and remediate problems, saving valuable time and resources.
