MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - July 20, 2011) - Hopper, a technology company pioneering a new approach to travel search, today announced the election of Philip C. Wolf, chairman of PhoCusWright, to the company's board of directors.
"Philip is one of the smartest and most knowledgeable people in the travel industry," said Frederic Lalonde, Hopper's CEO. "Hopper is facing rapid growth in the coming months, and Philip's experience and guidance will no doubt prove instrumental to our success in navigating that transition."
"Travelers crave better search," commented Wolf, "and Hopper's innovative technology will be a game-changer in this very important sector."
In addition to leading PhoCusWright, an intelligence company specializing in next generation trends and insight for the travel industry, Philip sits on several company boards, including Indian online travel giant MakeMyTrip.com. PhoCusWright, known for its influential annual PhoCusWright Conference, was recently acquired by Northstar Travel Media.
Prior to PhoCusWright, Philip was CEO at TravelMation, an early online travel trailblazer. He is a lecturer at Cornell University and former adjunct professor at New York University, has served as an expert witness and has lobbied Congress on travel technology issues. He is an outspoken commentator on the travel industry and is quoted frequently in consumer and trade media including CNN, Business Week, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times.
Philip Wolf has previously served as board member for Newtrade Technologies, founded by Hopper CEO Frederic Lalonde and acquired by Expedia in 2002. Lalonde and Wolf currently both serve on the board of MakeMyTrip.com (where they participated in the recent IPO) and are co-founders of Tnooz, the leading travel technology news organization.
Hopper (www.hopper.travel) is bringing a new generation of web-scale technologies to the travel industry, applying advanced computing techniques to build the world's largest database of travel information. Its unique travel-oriented search engine allows users to rapidly search for destinations and products using only keywords. A search like "best beaches in europe," for instance, instantly displays a complete list of European destinations ranked by beach quality, with the best available flight prices for each. The company was founded in 2007 by a team of former Expedia employees and is funded by Brightspark Ventures.
