Phoenix Dentist Attends Training to Offer Advanced Bone Grafting Technique

PHOENIX, AZ--(Marketwired - June 30, 2015) - Dr. Thomas Mattern, a talented Phoenix general dentist, recently attended a seminar to learn advanced bone grafting techniques for dental implants.

Bone grafting is used when the patient’s jawbone is too weak or thin to support dental implants. Bone grafting restores the jawbone and creates a strong foundation that can support dental implants. The training, held on June 5, focused on advanced bone grafting to set the stage for dental implants.

“Many of our patients are currently not able to receive dental implants because too much of the jawbone has eroded,” said Dr. Mattern, who operates Desert Dentistry. “Now we can provide bone grafting and then place dental implants that will give patients back their chewing ability.”

Dental implants mimic natural teeth and can be restored with individual crowns, bridges and dentures. Dental implants provide much more biting force than removable dentures and allow patients to broaden their dietary options and practice a healthier lifestyle.

Dr. Mattern’s dental implants are made from titanium and naturally fuse to the jawbone while also prohibiting the jawbone from deteriorating. Jawbone deterioration occurs when patients lose their teeth -- or when the gums are severely infected.

“Jawbone recession can occur in a matter of months after the teeth are lost,” Dr. Mattern said. “We commonly see patients who have worn removable dentures for years, and those patients typically need an option to build up their jawbone before they receive dental implants. With bone grafting and dental implants, we can drastically improve our patients’ oral and overall health.”
