Phoenix Dentist Undergoes Dental Implant Training

PHOENIX, AZ--(Marketwired - September 29, 2015) - Dr. Thomas Mattern, a Phoenix family dentist, recently attended a training seminar in the Dominican Republic on dental implants and tissue grafting.

The Sept. 9-14 training was led by Dr. Arun Garg, a Florida dentist who works with dentists around the world through continuing education programs and live patient seminars. The Dominican Republic seminar served as one of Dr. Garg’s live training events.

During the training, Dr. Mattern had the opportunity to treat more than 10 patients with tissue grafts and dental implants.

"Dr. Garg’s implant seminar classes are highly rated because he provides quality hands-on training," said Dr. Mattern, owner of Desert Dentistry. "By working with real patients, we get to see real-time results and oversee the recovery process."

Dr. Mattern uses dental implants to replace single missing teeth or to stabilize dentures. Patients can have missing teeth due to gum disease, decay or trauma. Dental implants, which are made from titanium, naturally fuse to the jawbone and anchor a permanent restoration or denture.

Dental implants preserve the jawbone and can be placed with a 98 percent success rate. With proper home care, dental implants can last a lifetime. In addition to conventional dental implants, Dr. Mattern places mini dental implants for patients with a thin jawbone. When patients lose their teeth, the jawbone begins to recede. The mini dental implant works just like traditional implants but are smaller in diameter.

"I look for dental implant training every year so I can improve the quality and outcome of my dental implant procedures," Dr. Mattern said.
