Phonoscope Deploys Juniper Networks Routing Solutions for Comprehensive IPv6 Support

The Leader in Houston-Area Voice, Video, Data and Web Solutions Ensures Seamless Web Addressing Transition and Coexistence

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - Sep 20, 2011) - Juniper Networks (NYSE: JNPR) today announced that Phonoscope, operator of the largest privately-owned fiber optic Metropolitan Area Network in the U.S., has selected Juniper Networks routing solutions as its platform of choice to support IPv4/IPv6 addressing transition and coexistence across its 46 multi-gigabit Ethernet fiber optic rings. Based in Houston, Texas, Phonoscope supplies customers on its network with a variety of commercial and residential grade services and is making the necessary investments to fully support IPv6, in anticipation of the future depletion of IPv4 addresses.

"As a technology pioneer in providing advanced services for our customers, Phonoscope has consistently been an early leader and innovator in making sure that our services are ready to support all of the network traffic requirements of our customers, including support for IPv6 addresses," said Robert Jacobs, network director at Phonoscope. "Juniper Networks has been a committed partner in helping us make educated, practical decisions as we prepared to build a smooth migration path to continue support for IPv4 while supporting new IPv6-based traffic."

As part of its move to accommodate IPv6 addresses, Phonoscope deployed Juniper Networks® MX960 3D Universal Edge Routers, which support all major facets of IPv4/IPv6 transition and coexistence technologies, including DS Lite and NAT44/NAT 444. The MX Series Universal Edge Routers are a portfolio of high-performance Ethernet routers that function as a Universal Edge platform capable of supporting all types of Phonoscope customers, including business and residential customers.

"Phonoscope is an excellent showcase of how the transition to IPv6 address support can be managed simply and cost-effectively while ensuring continued network support and operation," said Robert Krohn, vice president for marketing and general manager, Router Services Business Group, Juniper Networks. "Juniper's next generation network addressing portfolio answers the IPv6 challenge with a robust mix of hardware and software innovations that are designed to support customers like Phonoscope who must deliver a seamless transition and coexistence experience for their subscribers."

Juniper Networks has made significant investments in technologies and solutions that enable enterprises and service providers to meet mixed IP addressing needs even as they build out IPv6 networks as rapidly as markets and services require.
