MADD Canada and Irving Oil joined forces this week to remind people about the importance of always driving sober at the Atlantic Region launch of Project Red Ribbon. The December 9th event included several special guests, including (from left to right): The Honourable Lena Diab, Minister of Justice and Attorney General for Nova Scotia; Margaret Miller, MLA for Hants East and former MADD Canada National President; Staff Sergeant Dianne Stairs, Acting Officer in Charge of RCMP Traffic Services; Johnny Grant, Irving Oil Manager of Sales and Operations for Eastern Canada; Angeliki Souranis, MADD Canada National President; Staff Sergeant Scott MacDonald, Halifax Regional Municipality Public Safety Officer; and Mike Savage, the Mayor of Halifax Regional Municipality.
Project Red Ribbon, MADD Canada's annual holiday awareness campaign, runs from November until January. During that time, MADD Canada's Atlantic Region Chapters and Community Leaders are out in their communities handing out red ribbons and educational material to create awareness about safe driving.
Irving Oil fleet vehicles, which cover between 4 to 5 million miles every year throughout Atlantic Canada and New England, feature the MADD Canada logo and red ribbon decals. Irving Oil, as a sponsor of MADD Canada for the last four years, also trains its drivers to identify and report suspected impaired drivers.
