Photographer Rob Shanahan Debuts Much Anticipated Book, "Volume 1," With Photos of Rock & Roll's Biggest Icons & Foreword by Ringo Starr

Featuring Behind-the-Scenes Photos of Music's Most Legendary Artists

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - Nov 22, 2011) - Rob Shanahan (, recognized as one of music's most published photographers, and who is Ringo Starr's personal photographer, will release his first book of photographs, titled "Volume 1." This long-awaited book features photos of such iconic musicians as Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney, Keith Richards, Eddie Van Halen, Joe Walsh, Christina Aguilera, Sheila E, Tommy Lee, Dave Navarro, and many more. It includes intimate shots of the musicians not only behind the scenes, but also in the studio, onstage and backstage as well. Along with the photos is a foreword by Ringo Starr, artist quotes, and personal anecdotes shared by Shanahan. "Working on this book and revisiting 15 years of my archives has been such a rewarding experience. There were many shots that I forgot about, or when looking at them in the context of the book, they took on a different meaning," said Shanahan.

A musician himself, Shanahan first started playing the drums at 11, then picked up his first camera at 12. Since 2003 he has been the chief photographer for Yamaha Music and has photographed hundreds of Yamaha endorsed artists like Elton John, Barry Manilow, Sammy Hagar and others, who are included in the book. In 2006, Shanahan had the honor of becoming Ringo Starr's personal photographer through an introduction by Sheila E. His experience as a drummer, combined with his easy-going and likable personality has earned him a reputation as one of the industry's go-to photographers who musicians trust, and thus what makes his photos so authentic and intimate.

The book is 224 pages, and all the images are available as signed gallery prints. It will be available December 1st and can be pre-ordered at The official book launch will be December 1st at the Blue Tie - Blue Jean Ball at The House of Blues in West Hollywood and will benefit Autism Speaks.
