Physicians Interactive Chairman and CEO Donato Tramuto Selected as Finalist for Modern Healthcare's Second Annual Community Leadership Award

Recognized for Accomplishments With Health eVillages and the Tramuto Foundation

READING, MA--(Marketwired - Aug 20, 2013) - Physicians Interactive (PI), the leading provider of online and mobile clinical resources and solutions for healthcare professionals, announced today that Donato Tramuto, Chairman of the Board and CEO, has been selected as a finalist for Modern Healthcare magazine's Community Leadership Award. Voting for the award is open until September 20th. The winner and honorable mentions will be profiled in the Nov. 18th issue of the magazine in a special section.

The Community Leadership Award honors healthcare leaders who go above and beyond their organizational roles to help improve the quality of life in local communities and around the globe. Tramuto was selected for his work on behalf of several non-profit organizations, including Health eVillages, which provides state-of-the-art mobile health technology to medical professionals in the most challenging clinical environments around the world, and the Tramuto Foundation, which helps disadvantaged youths achieve their goals.

"I want to thank Modern Healthcare for this prestigious honor and all my fellow nominees for their dedication to community service locally and around the world," said Tramuto. "They are all fine examples of the tipping point. Touch one person and that person touches others, with the result being a generation of people who are focused on helping others by giving back. I am tremendously proud of the difference that the people in Health eVillages and the Tramuto Foundation make in the lives of people around the globe every day."

Tramuto and Physicians Interactive launched Health eVillages in October 2011 in partnership with the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice & Human Rights. Health eVillages provides iPods and iPads loaded with medical reference and clinical decision support apps to medical professionals in Uganda, Kenya, China, Haiti, Dominican Republic, and rural Louisiana. Physicians Interactive supplies the medical content for the mobile devices through its Skyscape platform.

Apple recently featured Health eVillages' Skyscape app on its website in the video "Making a Difference - One App at a Time" as one of the iOS tools that are changing people's lives "in ways never imagined." The video follows a health practitioner using the program's technology at a pilot site in Lwala, Kenya, to illustrate how Health eVillages is using technology to improve health care in rural locations.

As the Chairman and founder of the Tramuto Foundation, Tramuto also helps disadvantaged youth reach their educational goals. The foundation was established in 2001 following the September 11th terrorist attacks. Tramuto had planned to be on Flight 175 -- the second plane to hit the World Trade Center. He made a last-minute decision to get on an earlier flight and give up his seat. His two close friends and their three-year-old son lost their lives on the flight. The Tramuto Foundation was founded in their memory.

In 2005, 2009 and 2012, Tramuto was selected by PharmaVoice as one of the Top 100 Most Inspirational Healthcare Leaders in the life sciences industry. In May 2012, he was recognized by The Boston Globe as one of the top 12 innovators in Massachusetts for his work on Health eVillages. In February 2013, he was selected by Healthcare IT News for its H.I.T. Men Award for Innovation.
