Picture Framing the Quartier Vanier... Merchants Unveil 34th Mural Along Parkway

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 6, 2007) - In an effort to retell Vanier's history and to discourage graffiti, the Business Improvement Area (BIA), the Quartier Vanier's merchants association will be unveiling PubliArt Vanier's 34th mural, on Friday December 7th at 2 pm, at the intersection of MacArthur Avenue and the Vanier Parkway - at the Chateau Vanier, located at 158 MacArthur Avenue.

"We are pleased to work in partnership with PubliArt on beautifying the area. Residents, visitors and merchants alike benefit from this program", states Gordon Keith, President of the merchants association, Quartier Vanier BIA. The BIA has invested over $100,000 in the program as it falls within their area beautification mandate, depicting community cultural assets.

"PubliArt Vanier is a committee supported by a number of interested public and private donors, says Yvon Dube, President of PubliArt. We select the artists and the venues that illustrate our rich history of the area."

Elected officials, the BIA's board of directors, PubliArt committee members, Vanier community leaders along with the Chateau Vanier condominium representatives will celebrate this new acquisition, and join nationally known mural artist, David Yeatman in the unveiling of "Quartier Vanier - The Mural Community".

The BIA's Executive Director, Suzanne Valiquet supports the program and adds: "Urban art programs like this one are successful because they make local history visible to everyone."

The Quartier Vanier BIA is a not-for-profit organization established in 1985 and represents more than 350 businesses in the Vanier commercial district along MacArthur Avenue, Montreal Road and Beechwood South Avenue. Its mandate is to assist businesses by beautifying the area, encourage economic development and attract new visitors and tourists.
