Pipex Wireless Selects Airspan for the First Phase of Its Nationwide UK WiMAX Rollout
| Source: Airspan Networks, Inc.
BOCA RATON, FL--(Marketwire - July 10, 2007) - Airspan Networks Inc. (NASDAQ : AIRN ), a
leading worldwide provider of WiMAX and Wi-Fi based broadband wireless
access networks, announced today that it has been awarded a contract to
supply its solutions to Pipex Wireless covering the Manchester region; the
first phase of their nationwide WiMAX deployment. Pipex Wireless also
intends to expand its market tests in Milton Keynes and Warwick, using
Airspan's equipment, with the objective of future commercial launches in
these regions.
Airspan will supply its HiperMAX base stations together with its EasyST
indoor subscriber terminals. Airspan's WiMAX solution will enable Pipex
Wireless to offer a bundle of voice and data services which can be upgraded
to 802.16e-2005 WiMAX from the same platform without any hardware change.
Anders Rendahl, Airspan's Vice President of Sales and General Manager of
EMEA, commented, "We are very pleased that Pipex Wireless is using
Airspan's WiMAX solutions in their national deployment program and that our
technology will be used in the UK's first commercial WiMAX offering. We
continue to see momentum in the WiMAX market as carriers are looking for
creative and cost effective ways to grow their subscriber base while
transitioning to new technologies."
Brendan O'Rourke, COO of Pipex Wireless, commented, "We are building a
multi-platform wireless infrastructure able to serve business, residential
and public sector markets. The Manchester commercial launch marks the
beginning of our nationwide WiMAX rollout. Airspan was selected following
excellent results during our Milton Keynes trial and having demonstrated
their ability to deliver indoor coverage and a 'user-friendly'
self-installed deployment model."
Airspan's flagship WiMAX HiperMAX base station and easyST indoor WiMAX
modem combination support both Fixed 16d and Mobile 16e WiMAX system
profiles. This, combined with support for 5, 7 and 10 MHz channels makes
the solution highly scaleable, with up to 32Mbit/s per channel, and up to
12 channels per base station. Full support for advanced multi-channel
Receive and Transmit diversity ensures excellent operational range and true
indoor coverage.
