Plainville Dentist, Staff Train in Advanced Lifesaving Emergency Response

PLAINVILLE, CT--(Marketwired - April 28, 2016) - The entire dental staff at Gentle Dental Care recently underwent training to ensure that they are prepared to address life-threatening health issues and emergencies.

Dr. Thomas Peltzer, who operates Gentle Dental Care, had his entire office recertified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support in April. The office dedicated an entire day to working with nurses, doctors, EMTs and paramedics to establish a quick emergency response plan. The staff of Gentle Dental Care trains and rehearses in lifesaving tactics every year.

"We train with a number of health professionals to make sure we are prepared to give comprehensive and prompt care in the event of an emergency, even though we never anticipate that to happen," Dr. Peltzer said.

The staff trained to recognize a patient's condition, respiratory and cardiac arrest and coronary syndromes. The staff also rehearsed and increased their skills in administering chest compressions and using an automated external defibrillator. Working with other health professionals, Dr. Peltzer's dental team ran through simulated code conditions at various work stations and provided the appropriate medical response.

While many dental offices are trained in CPR response, Dr. Peltzer has his staff train in advanced lifesaving techniques to better respond to any possible emergencies. The Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification requires an intense, daylong session that allows staff members to perfect their skills through hands-on training.

"We're proud to take this additional step to make sure our patients are healthy and safe," Dr. Peltzer said. "The knowledge, hands-on training and organization provided by this training could absolutely help us save someone's life."

Dr. Peltzer is trained in all phases of dentistry, including oral surgery, preventive dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, sedation dentistry, dental implants, gum disease treatment and root canals. Dr. Peltzer uses dental implants to replace missing teeth or to stabilize dentures. Dental implants nearly mimic natural teeth and can be restored with individual crowns or dentures.

Dr. Peltzer earned his undergraduate degree from Brown University and graduated at the top of his class at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. While he was establishing his Plainville dental practice, Dr. Peltzer served at University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine as clinical faculty.

As a child, Dr. Peltzer had a terrible dental experience that left him afraid of the dentist for years. Once he decided to become a dentist, he vowed to learn gentle and compassionate dental practices that would ease patients' pains and fear. Dr. Peltzer is considered one of the country's leading experts in dental sedation and dental anesthesia and has completed hundreds of hours in continuing education on sedation every year.

Dr. Peltzer is a member of the American Society of Dentist Anesthesiologists, American Dental Society of Anesthesiology and Academy of Laser Dentistry and has earned his Fellowship in Dental Anesthesiology. Dr. Peltzer also has spent the last 15 years as one of just a few dentists in the world to practice as a member of the Clinical Research Associates.

Dr. Peltzer was recognized as one of America's Top Dentists by the Consumers Research Council of America for Dental Excellence in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015.
