Plan Ahead for a Sober Ride This Saint Jean Baptiste Day, MADD Canada Urges

MONTREAL, QC--(Marketwired - June 22, 2017) - The holiday weekend is nearly here and there's no shortage of fun activities and events to mark Saint Jean Baptiste Day and the vibrant history, culture and people of Quebec. While everyone is making plans for what they're doing and where they're going to celebrate, MADD Canada and Allstate Insurance Company of Canada are urging Quebecers to also think about how they're getting home safely.

"We don't want to see anyone's holiday weekend end in carnage on the road," said MADD Canada National President Patricia Hynes-Coates. "Plan ahead for a sober ride home. It takes just a few minutes and it can prevent a tragedy. Driving impaired is just never worth the risk to you, your family and friends or anyone else on the road with you."

Every year, hundreds of people are killed and tens of thousands are injured in crashes involving alcohol and/or drugs. These deaths and injuries are 100% preventable.

MADD Canada and Allstate Insurance Company of Canada are asking everyone to celebrate responsibly and leave the car at home if they're going to be drinking. Call an Uber or a taxi, take public transit, or arrange for a designated driver.

"Whether you're going out or celebrating at home with family and friends, please leave the driving to someone sober," said Allstate Insurance Company of Canada President and CEO Ryan Michel. "No one ever gets behind the wheel thinking they may injure or kill someone, but that is exactly what can happen if you drive impaired."

Revelers looking for a safe, sober and reliable ride home at the push of a button can check out Uber, MADD Canada's Official Designated Driving App. Visit https://www.uber.com/partner/en-ca/madd-canada/ for more information.
