Plastic Surgeon in Canberra on Breast Augmentation and an Aesthetic Sensibility

DEAKIN, AUSTRALIA--(Marketwired - Apr 1, 2014) - Dr. Chandra Patel uses the initial consultation for his breast augmentation patients as an educational tool. After the first consultation, he says patients have a solid foundational knowledge in regard to their options for breast implant type and surgical technique. In a recent blog post titled "Is Your Cosmetic Surgeon Measurement-Oriented Or Aesthetically Inclined?", Dr. Patel describes the two types of surgeons he sees most often in the field of cosmetic surgery. "There are surgeons who act like engineers and feel the need to measure everything to the millimeter and feel uncomfortable unless everything is precisely measured." This type of surgeon, Dr. Patel says, is typically less experienced and therefore lacks a developed sense of aesthetic in regard to implant size and placement. Conversely, he points out a second type of plastic surgeon who acts "with a matured aesthetic sensibility [and] is able to use that skill to produce better results." This second, aesthetically inclined surgeon is the type Dr. Patel favors, as he says the final results tend to look more natural.

Dr. Patel's focus throughout the entire breast enlargement process is to craft a breast appearance that maintains a natural look and feel. He notes that an important step in this process is the use of drains after surgery to reduce fluid accumulation and lessen the risk of capsular formation. In a blog post titled "The Lotus Clinic Details the Pre-Operative and Post-Operative Breast Augmentation Process," Dr. Patel explains that, although many surgeons choose not to use drains, he does not understand the logic behind this stance. Because fluid accumulation can lead to a hardening of the breast after surgery, Dr. Patel says, "[it] is a natural inflammatory response that we try to counter, and drains have no associated risks -- only the chance of improving results." The breast augmentation patients of his Deakin plastic surgery practice typically return home the day after surgery and are relatively free to do normal activities as they feel ready and comfortable. The only restrictions Dr. Patel notes are on exercise and heavy lifting (4-6 weeks). He says the majority of his patients return to work within one week.
