Play-Specific Unconventional Shale Interpretation Solutions Announced by TerraSpark Geosciences as Part of Insight Earth® 1.7 Launch

Innovation Leader in 3D Seismic Interpretation to Showcase Newest Insight Earth Features and Customized Solutions for Bakken, Niobrara, Eagle Ford and Other Major Shale Plays at AAPG 2012 in Long Beach, CA

HOUSTON, TX and BOULDER, CO--(Marketwire - Apr 17, 2012) - TerraSpark® Geosciences LLC today announced the availability of Insight Earth® 1.7, the newest version of the company's benchmark three-dimensional (3D) interpretation software platform. Insight Earth 1.7 provides integral features and tools to support TerraSpark's customized Shale Resource Play Toolkits for various major shale regions in North America, including the Bakken, the Niobrara, the Eagle Ford and others.

TerraSpark is the first interpretation software provider to create seismic interpretation toolkits adapted specifically to unique geological formations. Each toolkit is designed to fully leverage and exploit Insight Earth's advanced and integrated performance capabilities.

"Mapping microseismic data together with seismic and well data allows our shale play toolkits to help interpreters better identify areas of enhanced fractures and permeability, and reduce drilling risk," Geoffrey Dorn, PhD, CEO and president of TerraSpark noted. "Furthermore, the customized capability of each of our shale play solutions enhances ease of use and intuitive control for interpreters immersed in these distinct regions. No two are alike, and by addressing the unique characteristics of each, we help customers achieve more effective visibility and insight, and ultimately, faster and better decision making."

Each of the shale play toolkits is driven by Insight Earth, TerraSpark's 3D seismic interpretation platform built and continuously refined through aggressive research and testing within the industry-funded Geoscience Interpretation Visualization Consortium (GIVC). Enhancements to Insight Earth 1.7 include:

  • Improved Trim and Seal for significantly faster processing and improved quality of both Domain Transformation™ and the Salt Velocity Modeling Toolkit
  • Improved Horizon Edge Stack for superior results and better support for 32-bit floating-point data
  • Advanced Automated Fault Extraction™ with dramatic reduction in processing times
  • Rose diagrams for better visualization and control of the 3D display of faults based on azimuth, strike or dip
  • Co-rendering of attributes on surfaces enabling simultaneous rendering of up to four attributes or properties

In addition to the formation-specific Shale Resource Play Toolkits, Insight Earth also powers TerraSpark's Salt Velocity Modeling and Complex Structure Toolkits. To learn more about each of TerraSpark's toolkit platforms, visit

TerraSpark (Booth #832) will feature live demonstrations of Insight Earth 1.7 and the Shale Resource Play Toolkits at next week's AAPG 2012 Annual Convention & Exhibition in Long Beach, CA, April 22-25.
