Playfair Hits Highgrade Tungsten at Risby

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 13, 2006) - Playfair Mining Ltd. (TSX VENTURE:PLY) is very pleased to report an intersection of 6.49 metres grading 1.09% WO3 from its 100% owned Risby Tungsten property.

"I am delighted with the high-grade results from this drill program which also include 2.56 metres grading 1.36% WO3 and 2.93 metres grading 1.23% WO3," said Playfair president Neil Briggs. "Risby is a very significant tungsten deposit which is open on strike and at depth. Playfair plans to follow up these excellent new drill results with an extensive drill program on the property in 2007. The tungsten market is strong and shows no sign of weakening. Playfair is a tungsten company with four high-grade tungsten deposits and intends to take full advantage of the strong fundamentals in the tungsten market by aggressively advancing these properties."

All analytical data has now been received for the recently completed drill program at Playfair's 100% owned Risby Tungsten property. A total of 754.88 metres were drilled in 6 drillholes from September 3rd to 21st, 2006. Four of these holes were completed while two were only partially drilled and will be completed during the company's next drill program on the property. Playfair's 2006 drill program was within and nearby Hudson Bay Exploration and Development's (HBED) historic resource(1) of 2,700,000 tonnes grading 0.81% WO3 (2,187,000 MTUs).

Playfair's 2006 drilling has confirmed HBED's data and extended the Risby deposit. Both Upper and Lower Skarns were encountered during the drilling. Intercepts (from the four completed drillholes) that are greater than 1 metre and above cutoff of 0.30% WO3 are given below.

(1)Estimates of tungsten resources are historical in nature, predate and are noncompliant with NI 43-101. Playfair is not treating the historical estimates as current mineral resources or reserves. Playfair has not undertaken any independent investigation of the resource estimates nor has it independently analyzed the results of the previous exploration work in order to verify the resources, and therefore the historical estimates should not be relied upon. However, Playfair believes that these historical estimates provide a conceptual indication of the potential of the occurrences and are relevant to ongoing exploration.

Consulting Geologists Wesley Raven P.Geo and George Nicholson P.Geo, Qualified Persons under National Instrument 43-101 guidelines, supervised the Risby drilling program and Mr. Nicholson has reviewed the technical information contained in this News Release on behalf of the Company. Westcore Drilling Ltd. of Hope, BC conducted the drilling. Drill core was descriptively logged on site, aligned, marked for sampling and then split in half, longitudinally, using a diamond saw blade. One-half of the core is preserved on site in core boxes for verification and future reference. The samples comprising the other half of the core were bagged, sealed and delivered to Acme Analytical Laboratories Ltd. of Vancouver BC, an ISO 9001:2000 accredited laboratory where they were dried, crushed and pulped. Samples were crushed to approximately -10 mesh and split using a riffle splitter to approximately 300 grams. The sample split was pulverized using a ringmill to approximately 98% minus 150 mesh. A 0.5 gm split of the resulting pulp was subjected to a phosphoric acid leach followed by tungsten analysis of the leachate by ICP-ES. All coarse rejects and sample pulps are currently stored at the Acme Analytical Laboratories Ltd. facilities.
