Playing It Safe: HomeServe's Plumbing and Drainage Wins Third Consecutive RoSPA Gold

WALSALL, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwired - May 16, 2013) - HomeServe's Plumbing and Drainage business has had its approach to occupational safety and health recognised with a Gold award from safety charity the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

This is the third time in as many years that HomeServe's health and safety has been awarded the prestigious Gold award, which will be presented at the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2013 in a ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel on Tuesday 14 May, 2013.

Dating back 57 years, the RoSPA Awards scheme is the largest and longest-running programme of its kind in the UK. It recognises commitment to accident and ill health prevention and is open to businesses and organisations of all types and sizes from across the UK and overseas. The scheme not only looks at accident records, but also entrants' overarching health and safety management systems, including leadership and workforce involvement.

Steve Herbert from HomeServe said: "HomeServe is a business that constantly strives to make things safer for its employees and customers. As a large, national company, we're able to train and assess engineers and managers to the highest standards, and over recent years we have seen the number of accidents fall as a result."

"Health and safety is also a priority at a senior management level. Our health and safety committee takes on board feedback from employees, we run regular engineer roadshows, and have monthly audits. This may be our third gold award but we would like to add many more in future years."

David Rawlins, RoSPA's awards manager, said: "RoSPA firmly believes that organisations that demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement in accident and ill health prevention deserve recognition. HomeServe Plumbing and Drainage has shown that it is committed to striving for such continuous improvement and we are delighted to honour it through the presentation of an award."

Three days of award ceremonies and three banquets will be held in Birmingham from 14-16 May, alongside Safety and Health Expo 2013, which is Europe's leading annual health and safety exhibition. An award ceremony and gala dinner will also take place in Glasgow on September 19. See for more information about the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards.
