Plixer and Cisco Improve NetFlow-Based Network Management

Companies Conduct Webinar Revealing Medianet Performance Monitoring "Tips and Tricks" Using Flexible NetFlow

SANFORD, ME--(Marketwire - Mar 8, 2012) - Plixer International, Inc., a leading provider of NetFlow-based network management, today announced Scrutinizer support for Cisco Performance Monitoring metrics exported with Flexible NetFlow. The new support enables network managers to properly diagnose application performance issues by easily analyzing voice, video and data traffic while creating NetFlow-based reports on packet loss, latency and jitter. Additionally, Plixer and Cisco will conduct a series of joint webinars titled, Cisco Medianet Performance Monitoring with Flexible NetFlow Reporting, on Monday, March 19th at 9am, 11am and 4pm ET, revealing tips and tricks to improve the health of packet flows traversing switches and routers.

Router and switch performance monitoring has been combined with the Flexible NetFlow NBAR exports, enabling network managers to perform deep packet inspection on traffic flows, to identify applications that are sharing ports such as TCP 80. With the release of Cisco IOS 15.2(2) T routers now provide latency detail on NBAR discovered applications such as Skype and WebEx™, improving network traffic visibility and performance. The joint Plixer and Cisco webinar will cover these topics as well as:

  • Prioritization of traffic into the best traffic class for preferential treatment as it passes through each switch and router.
  • Configuration of Performance Routing (PfR) to ensure the highest priority traffic (e.g. VoIP and Video) uses the best path or route to its intended destination.
  • How to free up bandwidth by rerouting lower priority traffic such as Google searches.

Scrutinizer is a one hundred percent web-based tool that provides detailed network utilization reports showing the applications and users generating network traffic. Leveraging the software's domain utilization report, even sites with secured connections that use encrypted traffic can't hide from the insight provided by NetFlow and IPFIX collection and reporting. Scrutinizer is designed to peer deep into bandwidth traffic and enable the network administrator to easily see who is consuming bandwidth, what they are using it for and -- immediately restore precious bandwidth for work-related needs.
