PM Digital January 2011 Rewind Study Reveals 36% Increase in Sales Driven by Paid Search

Paid Search Performance up During Snowy Month

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - February 4, 2011) - The January PM Digital Rewind Index, which measures monthly paid search performance for online retailers, shows that paid search drove year-over-year revenue up 36%.While it's probable that the severe weather was a factor in parts of the East and Northeast which, in turn, caused people to shift their spending online rather than retail stores, PM Digital ReWind has reported consecutive double digit increases in each of the months in the second half of 2010, so this growth trend is in line with recent performance. The Index covers all retail categories, including merchandise and apparel for PM Digital's large roster of retail clients.

A few highlights from the Rewind Index include:

  • PM Digital clients had a 28% increase in spend.
  • Clicks and conversion (CPC) showed a healthy increase of 12% Average order
  • (AOV) continues to climb, increasing 4%

"Overall, CPCs were higher than last year," said Suzy Sandberg President of PM Digital. "Even though advertisers spent 28% more, stronger conversion rates and higher order size pushed revenues 36% higher than last year. It is probable that the weather was partially a factor as people homebound, especially on Sundays went to their computers to order up."

Based on aggregated and indexed performance data, the PM Digital Rewind Index provides immediate, ongoing perspective for the retail sector just a few business days after the close of a given month, every month.
