PNE Takes Top Honours as BCAMA "2011 Marketer of the Year"

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Aug. 31, 2011) - The BC Chapter of the American Marketing Association (BCAMA) has named the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) the winner of the coveted "Marketer of the Year" award for 2011. The PNE is being recognized for successfully positioning itself as a premiere year-round entertainment destination in the midst of the most challenging economic climate in decades. "Marketer of the Year" is the BCAMA's prestigious annual award program that recognizes the most outstanding integrated marketing strategy in the province of BC.

The PNE was chosen as the 41st Marketer of the Year for its outstanding "100 Years of Fun" centennial integrated marketing campaign promoting The Fair at the PNE. This enormous organizational initiative resulted in increased ticket sales, re-invigoration of the PNE brand, and the establishment of the Fair as a major Western Canadian entertainment destination. "The BCAMA is proud to be honouring the PNE with the 2011 Marketer of the Year Award. It is a well-deserved win, and particularly impressive as very few non-profit organizations have ever claimed this award," says Georgia Dahle, Past President and Chair of the Marketer of the Year Judging Committee. "The judging committee was greatly impressed by the results achieved by the PNE team."

The PNE has held a special place in the hearts and imaginations of British Columbians for more than a century. "There is no doubt that 2010 was an incredible year. We started the year as the 2010 Olympic Winter Games venue for short-track speed skating and figure skating; we welcomed the BC Lions to the new temporary stadium onsite at Empire Field and we closed out the summer by throwing an amazing 17 day party celebrating our 100th Anniversary," says PNE President and CEO Mike McDaniel. "Winning Marketer of the Year for our '100 Years of Fun' campaign is a fantastic honour and 2010 was the perfect opportunity to revisit our history to reconnect with our longtime fans. To celebrate our bright future, we introduced a new generation of enthusiasts to the concerts, sporting and cultural events that take place at the PNE. As we celebrate the success of the 100th Anniversary marketing campaign, we also proudly celebrate that none of this could have been without the dedication, diligence and commitment of our staff – from the front line to management – in making 2010 momentous for our organization."

More than 500 Gala guests – and many top-level marketers from the largest companies in BC – will hear an inspiring story about how an organization can continue to forecast industry trends and remain relevant. The PNE has been successful in capturing the 'spirit of fun' and transforming it into a driver of success. As non-profit enterprise facing massive macroeconomic challenges, PNE leveraged genuine organizational passion and creativity to achieve growth.

The BCAMA will present the award to PNE at the 41st Annual Marketer of the Year Gala at the Westin Bayshore Hotel on Thursday, October 13, 2011. For event details, please visit www.bcama.com.
