Pokémon Announces 2008 National Championships Tournament

Premier Pokémon Players to Compete in Free Event in Order to Qualify for 2008 World Championships

BELLEVUE, WA--(Marketwire - June 11, 2008) - Pokémon USA, Inc., a worldwide leader in trading card games, today announced the Pokémon® Trading Card Game (TCG) National Championships tournament. The National Championships is an open event that awards the top eight finishers an invitation to play at the Pokémon TCG World Championships tournament in Orlando, Florida this August. The Pokémon TCG National Championships will take place on June 28 in Columbus, Ohio.

The Pokémon TCG National Championships is open to all players. Competitors are divided into three divisions: Junior Division (born in 1997 or later), Senior Division (born in 1993, 1994, 1995, or 1996), and Masters Division (born in 1992 or earlier). Prizes are awarded to the top sixteen players in each age division. First-place winners will receive 72 Pokémon booster packs, a $5,000 scholarship and paid travel expenses to the World Championships. Second-place winners will receive 72 booster packs, a $3,000 scholarship and paid travel expenses to the World Championships. Third and fourth place will receive 36 booster packs, $1,500 scholarships and paid travel expenses to the World Championships. Fifth through eighth place will receive invitations to the World Championships and 36 booster packs. And ninth through sixteenth place will receive 18 booster packs. The Pokémon TCG World Championships is an invite-only event, and players must participate in a qualifying tournament, or hold one of the highest premier ratings in their division, to receive an invitation.
