Polar Explorer Will Steger Launches Midwest Tour to Propel Transition to Clean Energy Economy

Steger and Climate Change Leaders Spotlight Resources in Clean Energy and Climate Change Solutions

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - October 14, 2008) - Today polar explorer Will Steger announced the launch of The Longest Summer Tour ("Tour"), commencing in Chicago, to highlight the effects of climate change on the Great Lakes Region while spotlighting the Region's resources and efforts in clean energy and climate change solutions. Steger and Illinois Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn are headlining a forum at the University of Chicago at 1:00PM today, after which Steger will address Northwestern University at 4:30PM.

The Tour, an initiative of the Will Steger Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, is traveling throughout the Upper Midwest to host forums that aim to educate and galvanize audiences to lead the transition to a clean energy economy. Its town hall meeting format provides an opportunity for young adults, civic leaders, climate experts and government officials to discuss factors that contribute to climate change and its solutions. The forums will feature photography and video footage of the impacts of global warming, from the Arctic to the Great Lakes, and spotlight examples of solutions.

"The Longest Summer Tour highlights the Upper Midwest's strategies and policies -- at regional, state and local levels -- to reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions and pursue clean energy solutions," Steger said. "We are providing a series of intergenerational forums to engage citizens in working together to solve the climate change crisis," he added.

Interested parties can follow the Tour's progress via podcast at, which features bloggers from throughout the Great Lakes Region.
