Polish-Canadians Celebrate the Beatification of John Paul II

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 27, 2011) - Canada's Polish community will celebrate the beatification of Pope John Paul II with a variety of festivities in the upcoming days.

Sunday, May 1st:

The John Paul II Cultural Centre (4300 Cawthra Road, Mississauga, ON) will be hosting festivities throughout the day. Starting at 4AM the beatification ceremony will air live from Rome in the Great Hall of the Centre. At 8AM a special exhibit of John Paul II memorabilia will begin. At 10AM there will be a parade from a nearby park to St. Maximilian Kolbe parish.

At 11AM there will be solemn Masses of thanksgiving at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish (4260 Cawthra Road, Mississauga, ON) and St. Casimir's Parish (156 Roncesvalles Avenue, Toronto, ON).

At 6PM there will be a candlelight vigil at the John Paul II monument (St.Casimir's – St. Stanislaus' Polish Parishes Credit Union, 220 Roncesvalles Avenue, Toronto, ON).

Monday, May 2nd:

At 6PM the Conference of Polish Priests for Eastern Canada, the Polish Consulate General in Toronto and the Canadian Polish Congress will host a special Mass at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish. The Ambassador and the Consul-General of the Republic of Poland will be present.

Sunday, May 8th:

At 7PM Catholic Youth Studio will present the "Totus Tuus" gala concert in honour of Blessed John Paul II at Toronto's Roy Thomson Hall. The Toronto Silver Symphony Orchestra and over 100 Canadian and international artists will take part in the Gala. The "Totus Tuus" concert will be Canada's main event celebrating the beatification of John Paul II.
