Polycom Sponsors InteropNet for Second Year With a Full Suite of Open SIP-Based Endpoints

Polycom Teams With Aruba Networks, Digium and Ekahau to Provide Desktop, Conferencing and Wi-Fi Applications for World-Class InteropNet

PLEASANTON, CA--(Marketwire - April 28, 2008) - INTEROP LAS VEGAS (booth no. 2207) -- Polycom, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLCM), the leader in unified collaborative communications solutions, today announced it has been selected, for the second year in a row, as an Official Network Provider for the InteropNet at Interop Las Vegas 2008. Teaming with Aruba Networks, Digium®, and Ekahau, Polycom is deploying an end-to-end telephony voice over IP (VoIP) solution featuring Polycom's award-winning HD Voice line of SoundPoint® and SoundStation® IP phones and its SpectraLink® 8000 Series wireless handsets. The SpectraLink handsets will provide seamless Wi-Fi communications for the tradeshow's demanding wireless environment. In addition, Polycom is also providing HDX 8000™ high-definition telepresence solutions for the Interop Labs network, allowing people to participate in the InteropLabs workshops from the expo floor.

The InteropNet is built in collaboration with leading vendors utilizing hand-selected products that can support a wide range of applications and connectivity services including voice, video and data for over 18,000 attendees and 500 exhibitors. The InteropNet represents the most demanding network environment and is a real-world demonstration of optimum business IT performance and integration. Interop Las Vegas runs from April 27 - May 2 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.

"In 2007, Polycom's SpectraLink handsets offered a simple solution to complement our wireless needs. They provided us with a voice communication system that works in as adverse a wireless environment as you are going to find," said Geoff Horne, architect for the InteropNet. "Interop staff and the NOC team were able to stay in touch no matter where they were in the convention center, and the push-to-talk feature of the SpectraLink handsets allowed for instant, ad-hoc communications. We're delighted to include Polycom as our telephony supplier in this year's InteropNet, including not only the wireless handsets, but their desktop and conferencing solutions as well."

The InteropNet communications solution includes a Digium Asterisk Business Edition™ IP PBX and an assortment of Polycom's market-leading SIP-based telephony endpoints:

"The opportunity to collaborate and demonstrate our latest 802.11 technology with Polycom's market-leading SpectraLink Wi-Fi handsets for the InteropNet enables end users to experience the benefits of premises-based wireless communication first-hand," said Andrew Harding, Aruba's head of business development. "By teaming with Polycom through its VIEW Certification Program, we've been able to ensure our systems work seamlessly for high quality voice over Wi-Fi."

"The combination of our high-performance RTLS system and Polycom's world-class wireless handsets allows Polycom's customers to leverage accurate location tracking across an enterprise campus or in this case trade show floor for improved workflow, employee productivity and safety," said Antti Korhonen, president and CEO of Ekahau. "This solution was designed as a result of customers who requested an integrated solution that combines the functionality of Wi-Fi phones and the advanced benefits of a location tracking application. A live demo at both Ekahau and Polycom's booths will show customers the value of our joint solution first-hand."

"Asterisk offers all the flexibility, cost savings and innovation of an open source solution with the power and rich features required of an enterprise VoIP platform," said Bill Miller, Digium vice president of product management and marketing. "By teaming with Polycom, businesses large and small can enjoy enterprise-grade telephony anywhere in the workplace without the overhead and administration challenges of a more traditional system. Digium's involvement in the InteropNet demonstrates a turnkey telephony system operating in one of the most complex, yet highest quality networks ever conceived."

Beyond its participation in the InteropNet, Polycom will have a significant presence throughout the Interop Las Vegas conference. Geri Mitchell-Brown, director of technical business development for the Polycom wireless business unit, will participate in a panel entitled, "Wireless LANs: Wi-Fi Update" Thursday, May 1, at 10:15 a.m. Moderated by Edgar Figueroa, executive director for the Wi-Fi Alliance, the panel will focus on the latest advances in the IEEE 802.11 standard as well as what's next in the evolution of wireless LANs. Additionally, Polycom customer Morgan Fisher, a partner at Beth Melsky Casting, a leading talent casting company, will speak Wednesday, April 30, at 3:45 p.m. on a panel entitled, "What You Need to Know about TelePresence and High Definition Video."

Polycom is also providing equipment to the InteropLabs program, the world's only real-time live interoperability test bed for the latest networking technologies. The InteropLabs will showcase the latest solutions to real engineering challenges in a live, vendor-neutral, standards-based arena and will focus this year on two primary initiatives: Network Access Control and Unified Communications. The InteropLabs give attendees the opportunity to test-drive new products and technologies based on performance, not marketing claims. As part of this effort, Polycom is providing HDX 8000 standards-based high definition telepresence solutions to allow participation in the InteropLabs workshops sessions from the InteropLabs booth on the expo floor. Attendees in the booth will be able to see and hear the speakers and any shared content in high definition and be able to interact as part of the workshop session.
