InfoComm 2008 Attendees to Experience New Benefits as Polycom VC2 Moves Customers From Traditional Video Conferencing to High-Quality Visual Communication

PLEASANTON, CA and LAS VEGAS, NV--(Marketwire - June 10, 2008) - Polycom, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLCM), the world's leading provider of unified collaborative communications solutions, today announced new and enhanced visual communication capabilities and planned demonstrations supporting Polycom VC2, a comprehensive vision for next-generation visual communication that migrates customers from traditional, stand-alone video conferencing products to highly integrated, HD-quality and simple-to-use visual communication solutions and applications that can be seamlessly deployed and managed as part of an organization's unified communications network. The developments will be demonstrated next week at the InfoComm, NXTcomm and Educomm Conference & Expos in Las Vegas, June 18-20, 2008 (booth no. N6019).

Polycom VC2 addresses the need for visual communication solutions that provide the highest quality video, audio and content experiences; that are simple and intuitive to use and easily integrated within existing applications and communication tools; that are highly scalable for applications ranging from real-time one-to-one interactions to on-demand communications with thousands; that allow people to connect regardless of their device or network type; and that can be deployed and managed easily and effectively within an organization's converged IP network and communications environment.

"The global business environment will dramatically evolve over the next five to 10 years. Polycom believes visual communication will be one of the most important and impactful tools for business success during this time," said Joe Sigrist, senior vice president and general manager of visual communications solutions at Polycom. "Visual communication capabilities like telepresence, real-time multimedia content sharing, on-demand video content, mobile video and video-enabled unified communications have the potential to change what is possible in business and radically alter how, where and when we work, and the way we communicate and collaborate with co-workers, partners and customers. Polycom is uniquely positioned to deliver these solutions under the Polycom VC2 vision."

Polycom VC2 developments at InfoComm, NXTcomm and Educomm include:

Expanded Telepresence Solutions and Demonstrations

Polycom, the leading provider of telepresence solutions with more than 13,000 shipped to more than 1,000 customers worldwide, is expanding its telepresence portfolio and conference attendees will be able to experience a new Polycom telepresence solution as part of the HD Conferencing & Telepresence Showcase (InfoComm booth no. C2976).

Polycom offers the industry's broadest portfolio of telepresence solutions, which are fully interoperable and meet different customer application, space and budget requirements. The Polycom Polycom RealPresence™ Experience (RPX™) series are complete room-within-a-room telepresence environments that are optimized to deliver the most effective and immersive telepresence experience available today. The Polycom RPX line supports from four to 28 people on camera in each location, allowing for applications beyond meetings, such as the interactive classrooms being used today by Duke University's Fuqua School of Business as part of a cross-continental MBA program, and by Georgetown University as a Global Classroom connecting students in Wash, D.C. and its Doha, Qatar branch campus. The Polycom Telepresence Experience™ (TPX™) series are comprehensive solutions designed to give small groups the ability to collaborate in real-size, life-like dimensions with extraordinary realism as if they were in the same room. Polycom also offers a complete line of flexible telepresence solutions under its HDX line, which includes options for small, medium and large conference rooms, integrated room environments and the HDX 4000™ personal telepresence systems for executive desktops and offices. All Polycom telepresence solutions are based on industry-leading, standards-based technology and interoperate at the highest possible quality levels with the large installed base of more than 1.5 million standards-based video conferencing systems in use today (including HD systems).

New 1080p Video-Enabled Applications

Conference attendees will have access to live demonstrations of 1080p capabilities scheduled for delivery in 2008. Polycom plans to extend its telepresence portfolio to support 1080p resolution to meet unique customer applications requiring the highest clarity of video and content, such as medical applications for remote diagnosis, manufacturing applications for remote quality assurance, technical support applications for remote troubleshooting and evaluation, and more. Demonstrations will take place in Polycom booth no. N6019.

Highly Scalable, Presence-Enabled Desktop Visual Communications

Conference attendees will also experience live demonstrations of highly scalable, presence-aware desktop visual communication that delivers incredible voice and video previously unavailable in a desktop video application. These capabilities will also be integrated with high definition telepresence solutions and a new distributed video management application. The demonstrations will illustrate the benefits and power of tightly integrated, video-enabled unified communications from the remote desktop to immersive telepresence suites and the benefits of highly scalable simplified management for large, distributed video deployments. Demonstrations will take place in Polycom booth no. N6019.

Enhanced Infrastructure for Migrating Customers to Next-Gen Networks & Applications

Polycom today announced enhancements to its RMX 2000™ real-time media conferencing platform, a flexible, scalable and future-proof multi-network conference platform optimized for HD visual communication. The RMX 2000 Version 3 will support ISDN and legacy video endpoints (H.261) enabling customers to cost-effectively migrate from legacy networks and video conferencing endpoints to the next generation of IP-based visual communication solutions. The RMX 2000 provides an UltimateHD™ experience (HD video, HD voice and simultaneous HD multimedia content) for participants using HD and telepresence solutions, and full transcoding capabilities allow users on different types of networks (ISDN, IP, PSTN) with different types of video and audio endpoints (telepresence, HD video systems, traditional and legacy video conferencing systems, and PSTN, mobile and IP phones) to join meetings and experience the highest quality levels possible. Demonstrations will take place in Polycom booth #N6019.

Breakthrough Video QoS Technology for IP Networks Extended Across Portfolio

Polycom today announced the extension of its breakthrough Lost Packet Recovery™ (LPR™) technology across its product portfolio, with the addition of LPR support on the RMX 2000. Polycom LPR QoS technology dramatically improves the user experience and video, audio, and content quality of video calls on IP networks experiencing network congestion and packet loss. Infocomm attendees will see demonstrations of how LPR, running across Polycom telepresence and conferencing infrastructure solutions, provides an exceptional user experience despite high levels of packet loss that would severely degrade or cripple the experience on competing systems. Polycom LPR is now available on Polycom RPX, TPX and HDX telepresence solutions, Polycom VSX video endpoints and the RMX 2000 real-time media conferencing platform. Demonstrations will take place in Polycom booth no. N6019.

"After placing several hundred test calls between various systems, Wainhouse Research has concluded that LPR's ability to protect the video call experience from the effects of packet loss is exceptional," said Ira Weinstein, senior analyst and partner at Wainhouse Research. "A key differentiator and strength of Polycom's approach with LPR is that it protects all parts of the video call, including the audio, video, and content / H.239 channels, from packet loss."
