Ponderosa Telephone Upgrades Access and Transport Network With Pannaway's IP and Ethernet Service Convergence Network (SCN™)

California Telco Replaces Older DSLAMs With Pannaway to Deliver SIP-Enabled, Digital Voice and ADSL2Plus From a Single Easy-to-Deploy Platform

PORTSMOUTH, NH -- (MARKET WIRE) -- September 18, 2006 -- Pannaway Technologies, Inc., designers and developers of next-generation, converged IP broadband systems for telecommunications companies, today announced that Ponderosa Telephone, one of California's most established communications providers has selected and is deploying its multi award-winning Service Convergence Network (SCN™) access and transport platform to deliver revenue-generating, converged broadband services to approximately 10,000 subscriber lines.

Ponderosa is currently upgrading its legacy TDM and ATM-based systems with a cost-effective and easy-to-manage Internet Protocol (IP) network from Pannaway. This new infrastructure will provide the telco with numerous cost savings as well as technological advantages including the network-wide distribution of IP routing for more efficient bandwidth usage, improved scalability and increased security.

"Other manufacturers required us to build our own high-cost, IP transport network so that their access equipment would have a place to reside," said Alan Shearer, engineering manager at Ponderosa. "Only Pannaway delivers an integrated IP solution which encompasses premise gateways, access products and a telco-grade Gigabit Ethernet IP backbone router."

A CopperCom softswitch has also been installed at Ponderosa for the replacement of legacy voice switching equipment. CopperCom is a certified member of Pannaway's Primary Line VoIP Partner Program(SM) (see "CopperCom and Pannaway Announce Interoperability on SIP-based Networking," October 5th, 2005) which guarantees E911 call handling across multi-vendor VoIP product environments. This interoperability program promotes the implementation of true telco-grade digital voice networks, giving telcos like Ponderosa the assurance that primary line certified solution sets will deliver critical emergency calling services while meeting today's stringent regulatory requirements.

Gary Pemelton, senior facility plant engineer for Ponderosa adds, "We evaluated many of the major access equipment manufacturers and only Pannaway would allow us the flexibility to support both a GR-303 and SIP-based voice network. SIP will allow us to provide our subscribers with a much more robust and scalable digital voice service and our access partner of choice needs to be able to support this capability."

Pannaway's highly acclaimed Broadband Access Manager (BAM™) will also be used by Ponderosa to simplify the deployment, provisioning and ongoing maintenance of its new broadband equipment and services.

"It is very exciting to help telcos like Ponderosa move beyond expensive technologies such as ATM and SONET," said Kevin Brown, vice president of marketing for Pannaway. "The flexibility and scalability of IP and Ethernet provides telcos with the opportunity to deliver new revenue-generating services that were previously only made available by larger carriers."
