Port Cunnington Lodge & Resort, a popular Muskoka resort on beautiful Lake of Bays, is pleased to announce that they will be hosting a charity BBQ on July 16/15 to celebrate the lodge's 125th year in the Ontario resort business

MUSKOKA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - May 28, 2015) - One of the oldest Ontario resorts still operating under its original name in Muskoka, Port Cunnington Lodge & Resort (http://www.portcunnington.com) is celebrating its 125th year in the hospitality business this year. To commemorate this impressive milestone, Port Cunnington Lodge & Resort is pleased to announce that they will be hosting a celebration charity BBQ on July 16th to mark the occasion.

Entertainment for the Port Cunnington Lodge & Resort's anniversary BBQ will be provided by the family band Everything Fitz. Everything Fitz features four talented young musicians who perform high-energy fiddling and percussive step dancing. Through the day, local boats will be on site at the resort, including the historic Lake of Bays wooden steamship the SS Bigwin. According to Kim Loader, the Innkeeper at Port Cunnington Lodge & Resort, all proceeds from the Port Cunnington anniversary BBQ will be donated to the Lake of Bays Heritage Foundation. The Lake of Bays Heritage Foundation is a community-based non-profit organization that is committed to the protection of the Lake of Bays' natural and cultural heritage.

"We are very proud of Port Cunnington Lodge's history as a family resort, and the fact that we have hosted multiple generations of families as our guests. Successfully operating any type of business for 125 consecutive years is really quite a remarkable achievement, even more so when it is a hospitality property. The secret to our success is that we are continually making improvement to the lodge to keep up with the times and customers' expectations, but are careful to retained those qualities that have been attracting guests to the resort for over one hundred years. Today, as it was in 1890, we continue to offer our guests a beautiful lakefront setting for their vacation, good service and good value," states Loader, who as well as being the lodge's inn-keeper, is also a descendant of Port Cunnington's original owner, Boyce Henry Cunnington.

Boyce Henry Cunnington, the lodge's first owner, purchased the original Port Cunnington property in 1886 to start a farm. Port Cunnington Lodge was born when he opened his home to guests in 1890 because farming proved to be unprofitable. People had just discovered Muskoka as a vacation destination and every year more vacationers came north to vacation for the summer. As demand grew, Cunnington added more rooms to the family house, later, adding rental cottages to the property to accommodate 75 guests. Cunnington's son Charlie and his family took over running the lodge, and in 1989, the Wadsworth family, the former owners of Deerhurst Resort, purchased Port Cunnington Lodge. In later years, the purchase of additional land and extensive redevelopment and restorations would turn Port Cunnington Lodge and Resort into the special place it is today. Recently, Port Cunnington added seven new custom chalets and increased the resort's sandy shoreline to 1,800 feet. The centrepiece of activities at Port Cunnington Lodge is still Boyce Henry Cunnington's old Victorian lodge.
