PostNet Canada Receives FSC® Chain-of-Custody Certification

RICHMOND HILL, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 6, 2010) - On October 6, 2010 PostNet Canada earned their Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) Chain-of-Custody certification from the Rainforest Alliance's SmartWood Program. This certification will allow PostNet Neighbourhood Business Centres to offer more choices to clients who want to go green. It reflects a growing trend in the paper and printing industry of companies making more environmentally and socially responsible supply chain decisions.

The FSC is the global standard-setter in responsible forest management. Chain-of-Custody certification guarantees that wood that comes from certified, responsibly managed forestlands is tracked throughout the supply chain, from the forest to the consumer. Conscientious consumers can look for the FSC logo on wood and paper products to know they are supporting forest management that protects biodiversity and supports local communities.

"Our goal is to constantly improve as an environmentally conscious business and to encourage and help small to mid-sized businesses do the same," says R.J. (Rob) Anderson, President of PostNet Canada, "It's important that you do what you can to be environmentally responsible; by offering FSC certified print products we hope to make this a more convenient option for local businesses."

About 40 percent of all commercially traded timber globally is used to produce paper, according to the FSC. And paper consumption is expected to grow by about 50 percent in the next few years. The paper and printing industry have made big strides recently in focusing on responsible supply chain decisions.

PostNet's commitment to going green has really taken off this past year. With the introduction of Shred-it, confidential shredding services in all PostNet locations across Canada, the option to recycle your packaging peanuts through PostNet locations vs. sending them to the landfill and now becoming FSC certified, PostNet is leading the way to becoming a sustainable environmentally friendly business.

Along with the introduction of PostNet's FSC certification they would like to help encourage other businesses to go green. Any business that makes the switch to FSC certified papers will receive a press release as well as coverage on the PostNet website and blog detailing how their business is going green. Are you going green? PostNet can help!
