Invitation-Only Site Introduces Members the Same Way They Comfortably Meet at Friends' Parties

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - September 29, 2009) - Pounse, a start-up dedicated to bringing online the best ways people meet in the real world, today announced the public launch of its free invitation-only site that introduces members through shared friends.

Inspired by friends' endless complaints and horror stories, its founders created Pounse to give recent college graduates an alternative to online dating and the bar scene. Like a backyard BBQ or friend's party, they designed Pounse to be a fun, casual environment where everyone has been invited.

"Just as most successful relationships start with introductions by friends, Pounse uses friend connections to bring people together," said Scott Nolan, CEO and cofounder of Pounse. "Pounse matches users according to the features they consider most important, helping find true compatibility in a way personality surveys can't."

Pounse recreates the environment of a friend's party online through several key features. Its invitation-only status keeps member quality high, matchmaking features let users set up their friends, and profile features show members how they're connected. Members can be single or in a relationship, either looking to meet people or to introduce friends. Pounse also hosts member-only events to let users mingle and avoid blind dates. Past parties featured 100-foot slip-n-slides and private rooftops, with pictures available online.

"Site features have created buzz, some for their controversy," said Stason Strong, cofounder and CTO. "The Wingman and Wing Woman guide users, giving tips like 'Pump the brakes!' and 'Never mention your exes.' The Relationship Waiting List lets members see how many users are hoping they become single, helping them gage their desirability while notifying interested users when their relationship status changes."

Other popular features include unique trait descriptions, like member wit ranging from "Conan the Barbarian" to "Conan O'Brien"; communication filters, which block unwanted messages based on sender characteristics; and Pounses, flirtatious phrases users can send including "I'm on a boat" and "You smell good."

Pounse members include models, athletes, doctors, lawyers, and musicians. Pounse's founders are both avid surfers, one a former rocket scientist and the other an award winning artist. One founder is even dating someone he met on Pounse through a friend.

To reward founding members, Pounse is awarding lifetime Premium memberships to users who join through November. Users may join with an invitation or apply for membership at
