ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwired - June 11, 2015) - Stephen Powell, chief executive officer and president of Synensis, has been named the opening keynote speaker at the upcoming UT Health Science Center 2015 Summer Institute, the company announced today. His keynote address, "Patient Engagement to Improve Organizational Outcomes," will focus on strategies for achieving zero preventable harm by optimizing patient involvement. The Summer Institute is scheduled for August 5-7 at the Grand Hyatt River Walk in San Antonio, Texas. Powell's opening address is scheduled for Wednesday, August 5.

"Zero harm is no longer an abstract idea among healthcare leaders," said Powell, an international expert on patient safety and a recognized leader in the development of practices, behaviors, and strategies to improve organizational outcomes. "Zero harm is now a strategic imperative, which is why events such as the Summer Institute are so important. By bringing together leaders from across the healthcare spectrum, we can transform healthcare's collective culture of safety and accelerate improvements in patient outcomes."

The 2015 Summer Institute is sponsored by the UT Health Science Center's Center for Advancing Clinical Excellence for the purpose of engaging patients, stakeholders, academics, and clinicians in implementing strategies to improve patient-centered care.

Powell will be joined by two other keynote presenters. Jean Slutsky, the chief engagement and dissemination officer at the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, will present a keynote on the second day of the conference. Susan Frampton, the president of Planetree, which helps organizations implement comprehensive patient-centered models of care, will present the closing keynote on the conference's final day.
