Power Test Dynamometers Awarded Business of the Year for 2009

SUSSEX, WI--(Marketwire - February 9, 2010) - Power Test Dynamometers, a leading dynamometer manufacturer since 1976, has been named Business of the Year for 2009. The Sussex Area Chamber of Commerce awards an outstanding local business this honor on a yearly basis. Some of the criteria for this award includes: the ability to overcome adversity; a proven record of growth and performance -- particularly over the last 12 months; demonstration of an "employee relations philosophy," and local, regional or national recognition in their respective industry.

Despite the economic hardship felt by most of the country last year, Power Test was able to meet and, in some cases, surpass the requirements necessary to win this award. In addition to continued monitoring of the economy, Power Test planned a systematic multi-step action plan to protect its market and the welfare of its employees, which highlighted continuous honest communication with its employees.

Despite the economic downturn, Power Test has a staffing level about 12% greater than when they moved to Sussex in January 2008. In an environment in which many manufacturers have found it necessary to cut jobs, Power Test continues to look to grow. While some cost cutting measures where necessary in 2009, programs for improving employee welfare were further developed.

Power Test realizes that the future of manufacturing in America depends on today's youth, and as part of their outreach to the community they hosted over 240 students from the Hamilton school district earlier this year. These students, who are enrolled in the Technical Education Studies department, were able to experience first-hand how their development into a skilled and technically solid workforce can provide a sustainable career.

Aside from the Sussex Area Chamber of Commerce award for Business of the Year, Power Test was most recently recognized by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) for recognizing and enforcing the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) and is a finalist for the Wisconsin Manufacturer of the Year award in the small business category.
