Powerball Jackpot Grows to $230 Million!

POWERBALL--(Marketwire - March 9, 2008) - The jackpot in America's favorite lottery game continues to grow exciting players all across the country. Even though the grand prize was not awarded Saturday evening, 3 lucky tickets in New Mexico (1) and South Carolina (2) matched all 5 white numbers with the Power Play and won an incredible $400,000 cash each! Thirteen other winners matched all 5 white numbers for $200,000. These lucky tickets were purchased in Arizona (1), Colorado (1), DC (1), Iowa (1), Indiana (1), Louisiana (1), Missouri (1), North Carolina (1), New Hampshire (1), Oregon (1) and Pennsylvania (3). In addition, 1,265,395 tickets across the nation won a total of $11,141,042 in prizes.

Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Saturday's drawing the jackpot will grow to an estimated $230 million!

The cash option for the Wednesday, March 12th drawing will be an estimated $113.6 million.

The numbers drawn Saturday night were 17, 29, 31, 34, 49 and the Powerball was 16. The Power Play multiplier was 2.

Other prizes won Saturday evening included seventy-one tickets that matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000. Six additional tickets that won at this prize level also wisely purchased the Power Play and had the $10,000 winnings multiplied by 2 to $20,000!

A total of 180,148 winning Powerball tickets multiplied their prizes by 2 Saturday. Players were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you multiply your Powerball winnings from 2 to 5 times, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier.

Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even if there are no jackpot winners there are always tens of thousands of winners at other prize levels.

Players purchased $54,090,175 in Powerball and Power Play tickets between Thursday and Saturday night. The lotteries sold more than $2.5 billion in Powerball tickets in FY07. That translates into more than $725 million for worthwhile state projects.

Powerball is now played in 29 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
