Powering Eco Sustainability, the Latest Mantra Amongst the Indian Manufacturing Fraternity

Outlook at Frost & Sullivan's Green Manufacturing Excellence Summit and Green Manufacturing Excellence Awards, 2011

MUMBAI, INDIA--(Marketwire - Apr 29, 2011) - India has been a hub for manufacturing outsourcing for over two decades now. Companies have focused on enhancing productivity and maintaining global standards, but there has been pressure on protecting the environment, while doing so, in the recent years. The Indian industrial landscape is slowly warming to the concept of 'Going Green'.

According to Raghavendra Rao, Senior Director, Manufacturing & Process Control Practice, Frost & Sullivan, South Asia & Middle East, "Green manufacturing practices have begun to gain ground in India, but even concepts like lean manufacturing contribute to environmental protection. They have helped companies reduce consumption of resources (raw material, energy, water, etc) and improve efficiencies in processes."

Frost & Sullivan's Manufacturing & Process Consulting Practice, in its support to 'Powering Eco Sustainability', has initiated the "Green Manufacturing Excellence Summit 2011" and 'Green Manufacturing Excellence Awards 2011'. The company held the Summit and Awards presentation banquet on April 29, 2011 at "The Orchid", Mumbai. Dr. Ajay Mathur, Director General - Bureau of Energy Efficiency, presided over the Awards function as the Chief Guest.

The Green Manufacturing Excellence Awards 2011, are assessment-based awards that recognize companies that have implemented the 'Green Philosophy'. Frost & Sullivan categorized them into leaders, challengers and aspirants based on their performance across stages of the assessment process. The "Certificate of Green Manufacturing Excellence" was presented to qualifying companies.

The highlight of the evening was a panel discussion on the "Adoption of Sustainable Manufacturing Practices - Challenges and the Path Ahead". The esteemed panelists noted the need for companies to adopt green practices and help build awareness amongst the manufacturing fraternity.

According to Dr. Ajay Mathur, Director General - Bureau of Energy Efficiency, "Green is the way ahead. Initial investments are, of course, higher. However, these are recouped in the medium term, and make the company competitive and sustainable in the long term. Green is of benefit to the company and to the nation".

Frost & Sullivan initiated the Green Manufacturing Excellence Summit 2011 to build awareness about green practices for manufacturing companies across India. Companies today are ready to adopt this initiative but do not know where to start.
