PowerKey Pro 2600 Redefines Flexibility for Rugged Keypads

Heavy-Duty Keypad for Industrial, Outdoor Equipment, Marine, Military and Transportation Industries

RALEIGH, NC--(Marketwire - May 1, 2012) - Digital Switching Systems (DSS), a leading provider of rugged open-source keypads, has released the next evolution of its powerful PowerKey Pro series with the PowerKey Pro 2600. From its rugged design to its flexible configuration, the PowerKey Pro 2600 is the most versatile, intelligent and affordable networked keypad available on the market.

Digital Switching Systems' PowerKey Pro series of keypads was built on the principle of communication. Through its open-source omni-BUS™ architecture, the keypad can communicate with nearly every device in nearly every protocol language. With multicolor LEDs backlighting each of the PowerKey Pro's 12 heavy-duty buttons, the keypad can communicate an infinite number of statuses back to the operator with either periodic or continuous status messages. This two-way communication is critical for CAN systems and brings a new level of sophistication to ruggedized keypads.

"The PowerKey Pro is the result of years of research and working closely with our customers and the market," said Eric Vaughn, President of DNA Group, parent to Digital Switching Systems. "It combines the three most important factors that are consistently requested by customers -- rugged, reliable and flexible. The PowerKey Pro 2600 truly is the perfect keypad for any application."

Taking it a step further, the PowerKey Pro comes with its own easy to use configuration manager, allowing you to change a function, alternate light indicators or even change the entire layout of the keypad with a click of a button. The PowerKey Pro's physical keypad icons are interchangeable, so you can fully customize its layout at any time.

Electronic Innovation based out of Calgary, Canada is a leading provider of robust embedded electronic products in heavy equipment and machinery. They currently use the PKP2600 in a forestry equipment application because it is ideally suited for rapid deployment and reliability in rugged environments.

"When Morbark needed a rugged keypad for the newly-redesigned electronic control systems on their industrial line of machines they specified that Electronic Innovation use the DSS PKP-2600," said Brian Falter, Owner of Electronic Innovation Inc. "Morbark chose the PKP-2600 for its rugged, well-sealed exterior, large key size, and excellent tactile feedback. These distinguish the PKP-2600 in environments which require operators to wear heavy gloves. Morbark was also drawn to the PKP-2600 for its ease of field replacement, individual LED lighting for each button, and readily-customizable keypad inserts."

With its commitment to open system architecture, Digital Switching Systems is driving the adoption of easy to deploy, ruggedized, networked devices through its open-source omni-BUS™ software. This open architecture provides configuration possibilities for systems integrators rather than being limited to the capabilities of a single proprietary system.
