PowerStream Customer Wins Appliance Package Worth $15,000

Markham Resident Named Grand Prize Winner of 'Win With peaksaver PLUS(R)' Contest

VAUGHAN, ON--(Marketwired - February 19, 2015) - Rita Agrawal is shedding her winter blues thanks to a home appliance makeover she won by participating in a conservation program offered by PowerStream.

As the recently announced grand prize winner of the utility's 'Win with peaksaver PLUS' contest, the Markham resident has received an extensive energy-efficient GE appliance package worth approximately $15,000, which consists of a washer and dryer set, refrigerator, stove, microwave oven, and dishwasher.

The contest enabled Agrawal and other qualifying participants to be eligible to win the appliance package grand prize as well as several other early bird prizes that were drawn in advance. These included a high-efficiency furnace, a high-definition LED television, a digital camera, power tools, a getaway weekend, a mall shopping spree and lawn/gardening equipment, courtesy of donations provided by several sponsors.

The promotion ran from April through to the end of 2014 when enrollment in the company's peaksaver PLUS conservation program ended. The contest was open to PowerStream customers who were already enrolled in the program as well as those who signed-up during the contest period. In total, more than 28,000 PowerStream customers are now participating in peaksaver PLUS.

The peaksaver PLUS program provided free programmable thermostats and in-home energy display units to customers with central air conditioning. Participation in the program helps customers to better manage their electricity costs.

Funded by the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), peaksaver PLUS was developed to reduce the strain on the electricity grid caused by air conditioners operating at maximum during hot summer days. When peaksaver PLUS is activated in Ontario, central air conditioners are cycled on and off, never for more than four hours and never on weekends and holidays. Program participants can always opt out in advance if they need to.
