Conservation focused events and activities planned for the last week in May

YORK REGION, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 14, 2008) - PowerStream, the local utility which provides electricity distribution services in Aurora, Markham, Richmond Hill and Vaughan, is encouraging its customers to participate in Ontario's first Energy Conservation Week, a program designed to promote energy conservation and persuade people to reduce the amount of electricity they use each day.

Energy Conservation Week, scheduled for May 25-31, is a province-wide initiative being coordinated by the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) in partnership with the Ministry of Energy, the Independent Electricity System Operator and the Electricity Distributors Association. The objective for the week is to combine awareness-building with an understanding of energy conservation in order to further encourage Ontarians to conserve during the summer and throughout the year.

Events scheduled to take place across Ontario during the week are:

- May 25, 2008 - Blue Jay Conservation Awareness - Energy Conservation Week begins at the Rogers Centre where Ontario's Chief Energy Conservation Officer, Peter Love will throw the opening pitch at a Blue Jays game.

- May 26, 2008 - Electricity Impact Day - Activities will focus on providing knowledge to Ontario's institutions such as schools, government buildings and libraries on how to reduce electricity consumption.

- May 27, 2008 -Tieless Tuesday - Will educate businesses across Ontario on how to conserve energy in the workplace by turning air conditioners up two degrees and promoting a casual summer dress code.

- May 28, 2008 -Save the Watt Wednesday - Designed to provide individual Ontarians with tips and tricks on how to save energy at home during peak summer demand.

- May 29, 2008 -"Count Every Kilowatt Day" - Modeled after the OPA's Every Kilowatt Counts program and intended to demonstrate the power of individual initiatives on the province's overall conservation goals.

- May 30, 2008 - Cool Down Friday - As the week winds down, programs will focus on what Ontarians can do long-term to ensure the health and sustainability of the grid.

"We encourage our customers to take part in the many activities that have been planned for Energy Conservation Week and hope it will serve as a reminder for everyone to try and conserve on a daily basis," said Brian Bentz, President and CEO of PowerStream. "By reducing their electricity consumption, customers can not only lower their energy costs, but also help to protect the environment."
