PowerStream Golf Tournament Nets Over $75,000 for the United Way

VAUGHAN, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 31, 2011) - PowerStream officials announced today that the utility's annual charity golf tournament, held last month at the Nottawasaga Inn Resort in Alliston, Ontario, netted more than $75,000 for the company's 2011 fundraising campaign in support of the United Way of York Region and the United Way of Greater Simcoe County.

The total amount of money raised this year was the highest ever in the four-year history of the tournament being a charity event. The previous record for the highest amount raised at PowerStream's Annual Charity Golf Tournament was set in 2010 when the event brought in more than $63,000. Since 2008, the golf tournament has generated a total of nearly $225,000 for the two United Way organizations that PowerStream supports.

The PowerStream tournament has become one of the largest golf events hosted by a utility in Ontario's electricity industry. More than 60 sponsors, 370 golfers and 30 volunteers return every year to this fun-filled event and through their involvement help to raise money for the benefit of others in PowerStream's service territory.

This year's tournament featured the participation of several National Hockey League (NHL) alumni players from the Toronto Maple Leafs and Philadelphia Flyers including Johnny Bower, Brian Propp, Bob Dailey, Reggie Leach, Ray Allison and Mark LaForest. The NHL alumni players golfed and assisted in some of the other fundraising activities such as putting, closest to the pin and longest drive contests, as well as a casino and silent auction.

PowerStream is a proud supporter of United Way organizations in both York Region and Simcoe County. Since 2004, annual employee campaigns at PowerStream and its predecessor utilities collectively have raised more than $600,000 for the United Way, with approximately one third of it being generated from the golf tournament.
