PowerStream Helping Customers Light Up for Less This Holiday Season

Old incandescent light strings can be exchanged for energy-efficient seasonal LED lights

YORK REGION, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 6, 2006) - PowerStream is providing its customers with an energy-efficient gift that will help them kick-off their holiday season, save money on their electricity bills and be powerWISE® at the same time.

The utility, which distributes electricity to homes and businesses in Aurora, Markham, Richmond Hill and Vaughan, has set up several exchange events in November for customers to replace up to two strings of their old incandescent holiday lights with strings that feature the more energy-efficient LED light technology. The exchange events will be held as follows:

November 12 - from 3 - 6 p.m. at the Sports Village in Vaughan

November 18 - from 1 - 3 p.m. at Al Palladini Community Centre in Vaughan

November 19 - from 12 - 4 p.m. at Hillcrest Mall in Richmond Hill

November 29 - from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Town of Aurora municipal offices in Aurora

Markham residents wishing to exchange their holiday lights may do so through to the end of November by calling the Town of Markham at 905-415-7535 for information on the exchange program in that municipality.

All exchanges will be done on a "first come, first served" basis while quantities last.

Seasonal LED lights (SLEDs) are attractive from both decorative and economic standpoints, using up to 95 percent less electricity than their incandescent counterparts. They last 100 times longer and since they are not made with glass or filaments, SLEDs are less prone to breakage. They also produce minimal heat, making them less of a fire risk.

PowerStream Inc. is one of the largest local electricity distribution companies in Ontario, providing service to more than 225,000 residential and business customers in the municipalities of Aurora, Markham, Richmond Hill and Vaughan.
